Quartermaster Mr.Roper

That knife is an unauthorized copy of WT's 2.5 folder - QM knives stole it and didn't pay WT a penny. Plus, they're using his name to sell it. PLEASE people - stop supporting this evil company. Jared West, there's a special place in Hell for people like you.

That is kinda what I was thinking. Most of the folders this company is releasing are throwbacks of the old Mantis lineup, minus the hot pink accents. Funny that folks won't buy the Mantis stuff, but they gush over these versions without the hot pink stuff.

Warren Thomas knows how to design a knife, that is the 2.5 drop point.

Exactly... and a completely unlicensed copy. OP, go buy the real thing and support the creative geniuses that further our hobby rather than untalented thieves.

I grew up watching Boy Meets World. Fingers crossed that they release a knife called the Topanga :p

Seriously, though, I've been keeping up with the other Quartermaster thread and have to say that from what I've read, they seem to have no moral compass whatsoever.

I received this knife yesterday. It's a shame if it's true that it's a rip off... how sad.
Great knife though.. Thanks to Warren Thomas.

One odd thing though, when I took mine apart (a Strider spanner worked), each side of the pivot had 2 washers and one of them was bent on each side. I took the bent ones out and threw in some CRK grease and it's perfectly smooth now, centered, and easy to open. Hmmm.. go figure.
A few things I really did like about the knife specifically though were, the TexasT finish, and that the top swedge is hollow ground.

Mine came with 2 washers one each side and they were bent just like yours. I sanded and stropped mine until they were smooth. The knife opens much smoother now and the blade is centered.

I have been carrying it for 3 weeks now and really like it. I agree that it really is a shame if all the stuff with Warren Thomas is true since the knife itself actually pretty nice.

You also have to like that they went with Norman Fell instead of Don Knotts, who I think is probably more popular, across the board.

If there is such a thing as a Don Knotts knife... I want it. I will also accept the Col. Hogan, Barney Miller or Lou Grant.

Topanga was hot. Im holding out for the "Jeanie" and the "Maryanne"

The "Archie Bunker" and the "Ding Bat"..the later having to be a bali.

Not that it matters to everyone but, it appears you are buying recycled Mantis knives (shipped straight from China no less) that have been reborn under a new name. New junk, same owner. :barf:

I knew something wasn't right when I first saw these designs.

I would never support these business practices in any way, shape or form.

Not sure anyone is actually seriously talking about a purchase. I think this is just TALK, and fun poked at knives....the names of knives to be more specific. Seems the above statements are more about the company, which in turn would justify a move to feedback....as it did a previous thread on the subject of knives vs company discussion/debate? Beg pardon, its all so confusing to me...Mantis vs qrtrmstr...General Discussion vs Feedback...Im sure Ill figure this out.

i bought this knife and made the thread before i found out the designs were stolen. but at the same time im wondering why WT would hand over designs and prototypes without money first, or some kind of contract. could it be he is a victim of his own bad business deals as well ?

I didn't necessarily mention anyone in particular, just generalizing. Some folks like the designs and will in fact buy them. Just want people to know what they are actually buying may not be what they think they are paying for. Some won't care, some might save themselves a couple hundred dollars. There is already the thread going in Feedback, because that discusses the company itself, not the actual knives. This thread is slightly geared more towards the knives themselves. Not meant to confuse at all, rather meant to educate folks that are new and may not know the history.

I have no idea, myself. And I am not particularly familiar with this situation. I know you didn't mean anything negative by your statement, I am just adding this. I don't know the particulars at all of this situation, but even with a contract, it can often be incredibly hard to get your money, without spending a LOT of money in the process. Then, only the lawyers win. Not saying that is the case here, but contracts can seem iron-clad, but really be very loose, or just take forever and a day to get results legally. The system is VERY slow. If you're dealing with dishonorable people, they have likely been that way for a long time, and know their way around the system, and just how to dance around any rules there are. It's a shame, but they often know the laws better than most. I hope it works out for Mr. Thomas.

I wasnt trying to come across harsh. Apologies if I have. I had know idea of these facts and appreciate this and other insights the forum provides as well as the effect it may have on keeping business honest and perhaps protecting and warning individuals of potential pitfalls and loss.

Honestly a little pissed to discover the news on this company. I dont think I would have agreed to one of their products as a partial trade knowing what I know now. Totally on me, no way am I suggesting any wrong doing from the party I traded w/. I didnt do my homework till after the fact.

Seemed obvious that QRTMSTR in someway was related to Mantis, had know idea of that history either. When I did a preliminary search, one of the first things I found was an 'Ultimate Video"...or something. Took it at face value...My biggest problem is the misrepresentation more so than the country of origin. Some of my favorite Spyders are made overseas. Blatant misrepresentation, design hijack, royalties unpaid...I do not hold to this. A shame, I dig the whole steam punk thing, planned on a few more. As far a best designs for function...dont think Ill be missing much. More novelty than a field application.

Sincerely surprised to see some of the bigger distributors still on board. I read BHQ statement on the issue, however if the circumstances are that obvious, how come major distributors havent pulled product?
