Queen Mountain Man-comparisons (pics) and opinions needed

I'm only posting so Roland and Oy can reunite.

ETA: Usually with this size of knife I would prefer a lockback over a slipjoint. However with the GEC models shown above (IMHO) the fit and tolerances are so tight I'd feel comfortable using it in just about any application. To the OP if possible I'd try and get your hands on each version you're looking at and see what feels best.

Yeah ideally hands on inspection is best. If i lived near a store that carried these i'd look their stock over and pick the best one but....the nearest real knife store is a few thousand miles away, lol. Walmart and Canadian tire are pretty much the only knife sellers where i live, that limits me to a few models of Buck, Leatherman and Victorinox. As a result 95% of my knife buying happens online!
Actually as far as that goes i don't even know if ANY knife stores in Canada carry Queen (or Moore Maker, GEC or Tidioute).

Here's pictures of my Queen Mountain Mans in stag/1095 and jigged bone/D2 along with the venerable Buck 110.

Great pics,thanks!

Whats the weight difference between the two, Buck vs Queen?
A subjective guesstimate is fine, obviously the double brass bolsters of the Buck would make it the heavier one.
:)

I just weighed them all and the results are in:

MM stag = 5.0 oz
MM bone = 4.5 oz
Buck 110 = 7.3 oz

The Mountain Man in stag looks fantastic, but I have to say that to me, the jigged bone is freakin awsome. WOW!

I have just emailed them regarding whether they ship to Canada or not.

I'd appreciate an indication on the outcome of that, tholiver (haven't got PM yet, I think)

I am in BC, and would love to know too

They emailed back a few hours after i emailed them (very fast)!
Yes they ship to Canada and they use U.S.P.S (so no brokerage fees)!

Blue Sky asked:
Zuchus: Any idea why the shield on the stag MM is turned 90 degrees?

I have no idea. I don't know what the "standard" position is, but I have a feeling that their QC is a little lax on this point. I can't believe that they just stick the shield in arbitrarily, letting it fall where it may. I wondered about that, too, after I got my second one and it was different.

Picked up a Mountain Man in zebrawood, the slipjoint model. My new favorite knife right now. Great looking piece, feels good in the hand. Better than the cocobolo MM lockback I had. Yeah, the shield might jump out, but the rest of the knife seems sound.

Nice Dark Tower reference. :D

LOVE that series.

Regarding the Queen Mountain Man, I have had a hard time pulling the trigger on one ever since I got a GEC Scout #73. I'm just so happy with the quality, fit and finish, that it's hard to take a gamble on another manufacturer for my next purchase.

Thanks for the input guys!
I ordered a Queen D2 Mountain Man lockback in aged honey amber stag bone!
I'll post pics/impression when i get it!
:)

I believe they've taken to pinning the shield on this Zebrawood range, it's a different style of shield too.
