Got my Queen D2 Mountain Man lockback in the mail today, my initial impression is i really like this knife!
Aesthetically and ergonomically i love this pattern and i see more purchases of this pattern in my future.
However the grind is not perfect but i kind of expected that going into it. As it is now most of the length of the blade will shave hair however about 3/4 of an inch of the edge from the tip back is dull and the grind there is very minimal and very lopsided. However while it should be sharp i consider this a minor inconvenience that i can fix relatively easily.
Going into this purchase i was more worried about potential lockup issues. However thankfully the lockup is pretty tight, not bank vault tight like on my first gen SOG Tomcat or my Buck 110 but still in the acceptable range,as tight as most of the other lockbacks i've owned or handled.
The aged honey amber stag bone is very beautiful gives the knife a great feel.
Actually i've "felt" it so much in the past hour that i just noticed my palm and fingers have an orange tint to them!? Must have been residue polish or something in the handle material. Just spent a few minutes cleaning it with some dry tissue and i think most of the excess has been removed.
Tension wise opening is a little easier than my Buck 110. Once locked open the force required to disengage the lock is about the same as on my Buck 110.
The fit and finish of the stag to the frame, the fit of the pins and the lanyard hole, the polishing of the bolster and the blade are all good without any problems or blemishes.
Overall while it is not perfect (the grind and lockup it is not as good as your average Buck 110) i'm still satisfied with this knife and will likely buy this pattern again.
