Question#2 Snakeskin Micarta

I bet that if they could get more they would have done it by now and never stopped selling the snakeskin that so many people love. Hopefully some enterprising dude will find a way to make more and reopen the supply chain. Thats the great thing about the free market. If you are willing to pay enough someone will most likely find a way to sell it to you, sometimes it just takes time to let it all work.

Well whats so hard about making more snake skin? I mean, it's just red, blue, teal and tan canvas by the looks of it, I dont see what the problem with making more of it is, even if it's not EXACTLY the same.

Its a bit more complicated than that. Its a mix of different media, paper, linen, and canvas. That mix makes for a very difficult stack, and one that is nearly impossible to repeat. Repetition is the key, if you cant repeat the pattern effectively you cant call it a specific line.

It's good stuff and makes fora pretty knife, but half the fun of it is in the name -- SNAKESKIN.

The Boss needs to come up with a better name for green linen, and black paper, and pumpkin (even if i liked the look of pumpkin, I'm not sure I could ever call it that in public)...

We need a new color with a new name, something dangerous and mysterious

Seriously, it doesn't take much to take our breath away, LOL :D

hell its better than another thread on the Sar 4, ( you know).

Now back to your scheduled Sar 4 programing,,

Would it be okay if we put some SAR4 pictures in this thread? :p

As for it being a marketing move?. . . Hmmm???. . . So, I put an end to the availability of the MOST popular handle color in Busse Combat history so that I could increase the demand of something that I can no longer obtain, while forgetting to raise the regular price of what I had left over???.   . . . .

Diabolical. Just diabolical, I tell you.

Gator skin linen, Black knight fine micarta (paper), Chernobyl orange G-10. Those are my votes for the "new" handle materials! Sales should double overnight. Oh wait, all that are made are sold now. Well I guess we don't need sexy new names. Better we just get some sexy new options, you can call them whatever you like, heck you could number them, but some new colors and textures would be nice. I will take a #4 please.:)

Told you, he would show up, here's the answer you drunks,, lol.. Now back to your scheduled Sar 4 programing,,

That's why Samual L. Jackson wasn't there, he knew the Snakes were in Limited #'s and us hogs could handle them,,

Cool Boss Man,,

I didn't know who's post made me laugh more this one or Jerry's. The "you drunks" comment was the winning edge. :D

That's interesting, you think it is a mix? I will have to look closer at mine, maybe under a microscope.

Someone mentioned that safety/environmental regs may have forced a change in the ingredients or process. My limited understanding of micarta is that it is a phenolic (phenol/formaldehyde) resin composite. Phenolics are by nature dark colored resins, so that makes ivory linen micarta hard to explain, unless that used another class of resin such as urea or melamine. Our company buys and uses a variety of phenolics and other crosslinkers, and AFAIK, there has been little impact of regulation on the ability of the industy to supply it's customers.

I wonder if the colors in the layers are the fabric or the resin?

Guy, I would think the colors would be from the fabric. And the machining or sanding down exposes the fabrics beneath.

Then again, you know more about this kinda of stuff than I do:p

Imagine that, resinguy talking about resin, what's the world coming to?:D

Snakeskin is nice, and some is much nicer than others, but I don't own any knives with it. I would like to see something new and exciting, or old and replicable... old school green linen perhaps?:D
