Guys,

I posted a video regarding a new Medford I acquired. Basically I am asking vets and especially Marines, since I am not in the military or a Vet would you have an issue with anyone without a military background carrying a knife like this. Here is a link to the video.

Pics for those who do not want to watch the video

Thanks

I don't think they will have a problem with you, if when asked about it, you are not going to pretend to be one and will have adequate responses along the lines of admiration for their service.

On a second thought, sure there might be someone who will be drunk and find it offensive. But hey you are the one with a Medford in your hands.

It's a boat anchor with some scroll work on it, but if that's your kind of thing, then enjoy it.

Ironically, because of the shape of the handle, it does have the eagle and globe, but the most appropriate image (the anchor) is cut off.

I'm a vet...an old old (pre-Vietnam) vet...I gots no problem with it...enjoy...

Cheers/bg

I wouldn't have any problem with it.

It's not a Marine emblem.

It is a EGA, the eagle globe and anchor are all represented in that engraving even if cut off. So it is a Marine emblem.

The eagle is facing the wrong way though.

Here's a obligatory Motto picture.

I don't think you'd have any trouble there. From my perspective, an insignia of a branch is more honoring that branch than claiming it. If you were to carry a knife with the insignia of a specific unit that you couldn't lay claim to that would be another matter. For example, there is a certain type of person that gets a Navy SEAL tattoo or wears a SEAL shirt or hat even though they've never been a SEAL. That can be a problem for those that have actually earned the right to wear the trident.

I'm an Army vet. I wouldn't have any problem with somebody that never served wearing something that said U.S. Army on it. I would look at it a little differently if you had a hat or shirt that bore the insignia of my unit and weren't a part of it. I'd just think it was weird, but I know some people that would be more upset about it than that.

Your knife, your pocket. Thats where it should end. Who cares if someone else has a problem with it. As long as you aren't claiming credit/valor for things you never did, its a non-issue.

Not exactly the same but I often wear an NYPD ballcap that was given to me by a cop friend. Occasionally I get asked if I'm a cop and I obviously answer, "no, it was given to me by a friend." All the other cops I know, NYPD or not, love that I wear it.

Disagree all you want. Since you're arguing that if you remove the anchor and flip the image, it's still a Marine emblem, is it still a Marine emblem if you remove the anchor and the globe? How about if you remove the anchor, globe and eagle? How about if you remove the anchor, globe, eagle and all text?

Hint: it stops being a Marine emblem as soon as you change it. Who makes it is irrelevant.

As long as nobody is claiming they were in the Marines when they weren't I don't care.
But thanks for asking.

Army infantry, and not at all, provided you are carrying it as a tribute, with respect towards those who served and not making claims.
