The rotary converter actually manufactures the third leg of power in the three phase circuit. so if you don't run the converter you are not going to get full power from you sg motor and it will also draw more current through your house from the extra load on the motor. The five horse motor for the converter should draw hardly any power after it is running and having it in the circuit should reduce the load on the sg motor by providing the third leg and there for reduce the current being drawn through the wiring in your house. if the idler motor is causing problems then it most likely has problems of it's own.
