I don't know if is is the good place but I really need some helps about a purchase, because I begin to freak out !

I bought a large bloodwood inlay sebenza to another forum guy (overlord1) the 23rd january and I'm still waiting for it. I live in France and It was my birthday gift.
I totally trust the seller. He has good feeback and answers to my mails. He seems to be as annoyed as me.
The first time he went to his PO, Overlord1 sent this knife with air letter post and they said that the shipping takes 2 weeks. After a month with nothing in my mailbox, He went again and they answered him that it takes 6 weeks. After that, they perhaps could try to track the parcel (It was not insured but Overlord1 kept the shipping receipt)
I'm pretty sure that the french customs never seizes knives, they can only add expensive taxes because of the VAT, and they would have sent me a letter in this case.
So, is it normal?
Any experience for a long wait like that?

please help me...

Never bought stuff from forum people. Tried, yes but not sucseeded (and it was my fault). Got deliveries from States, was plain amazed! 4 days to Russia by USPS. If he really sent goods, he got to tell you the tracking number so you could see the progress.

If it went air mail there is no tracking #.It might still arrive I have had an air mail package from Canada take 6 weeks before.
It would have been better for him to have shipped it in a global priority envelope,it would have fit in a large one and only cost 10.00 to ship it,if it would fit in a small one it only cost 5.00 and you have a tracking number in with that price. Most of the time Global priority only takes 3 to 5 days.
Anyone shipping in these global priority envelopes please be sure to tape all the seams with clear tape and put clear tape over the address labels. These envelopes are not glued together very well and will come open if not taped up.

Thank you, U812.

I really appreciate your advise. It means that I actually should wait 6 weeks. What a pain !!! Today is the end of week 5. So i will get my parcel next week.

Sorry,I wasn't saying that it would take six weeks just that it could take that long. Most of the time it doesn't.

Do you know what method he used to send it?

I've used Global Express, and it typically takes about 4-5 business days.

6 weeks sounds a little high in my opinion.

Hey Moonlight,
I was hoping to hear that you got the knife this week, but I guess not :( I pulled out my USPS receipt and it says "Air Letter-Post". As you know I checked with the USPS last week and was told by the person behind the counter that they have heard of items arriving after 6-8 weeks! They did admit that "normally" 7-10 days is the time frame. Since we both agreed to not insure the knife in order to keep your import duties to a minimum (insurance amount cannot be more than the declared value according to USPS), it is going to be difficult to track the package. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that the Sebenza will show up. Keep me informed and I'll do the same.

Thanks Ed :)

As I said, I never doubt about your honesty and your good will. :)
We should have taken another way of shipping than "Air letter post", but I was sure you took global priority flat envelope. It is my fault and the fault of the person behind the counter (what a bad adviser!), I didn't know that a bigger envelope exists too.
Let's wait again before crying :(

You should choose more secure delivery option next time! You give so much money, some extra dollars don't make the difference.Anyway I hope you will get this;)

From my experience- Time for Overseas (i live in Israel) - between 10 days and 2 months... Never could figure out why. Never a an item "lost". Most important- That you trust the seller. i hope you get your package ASAP...
Bests,

I only buy from sellers that use the U.S.P.S. and have always gotten my knives, sometimes in just days sometimes weeks...no rhyme or reason to it!

Kap

of course my experience is only shipping from the U.S. to Canada

I sent a knife to Poland once via standard mail, whatever it is between here and Poland. NEVER AGAIN.

Both the buyer and I were chewing our nails down badly by the time the knife showed up, over a month later. Screw that.

Fed Ex or DHL worldwide, period. Fed Ex has amazing tracking and will be able to tell you where the package is no matter what. If you don't want to delcare the knife as a knife, have the receiver tell you how to label the customs form.

Thank you for your support, guys.

I'm still waiting for my parcel (6th week now) and I call my PO everyday in case of the postman forgets me.
I'm scared about the loose...

I'm sorry to hear of your problem, moonlight. I've used US Postal Service GPM (Global Priority Mail) twice and airmail once to Germany. If my memory serves, 8 days was the longest any took. Please let us know when it shows.

Tony

PS - It took 10 weeks to get a book to Italy via surface mail. I was told by the recipient that it is normal as the Italian post isn't very quick or efficient.

They maybe sent it via surface mail (that happens - I had package 6 months in transit to Australia). If it was sent registered (signature required) the package is automatically insured up to 100 USD I think (just in case it gets lost or stolen). That is good thing since I had two packages ripped open and knives stolen - both to California (same date, almost the same destination)...

Still nothing ! I'm really pissed

I'm really afraid that the parcel has been lost. I trade knives for months and the first lost I have, It's a large sebenza !
