Question about trading guns on the forum

no rain. Go take a look at IPSC, go look at what many of the elite weapons spec ops teams have used until recently. Most successful is greatest in my book. There are modern materials today that make other guns more useful and reliability wise no one beats glock. But the 1911 is still the greatest.

Most prestigious indeed sir. It's just tough to compete with modern materials and designs is all. I would have to say H&K USP'S take the cake in my personal experience for reliability.

As far as ISPC goes there is lots of classes and divisions and 1911's only make up a portion of that and most are so tricked out to call them 1911's might be stretching it...just saying. I will say I've attended multiple tactical training schools and 1911's flat out aren't allowed because of reliability issues with most factory pistols of any dollar amount because of time it takes away from other students.

Hey folks, you are messing with the OP's thread. take your deep discussions elsewhere.

Resin Guy you are right.
OP, sorry we jacked your thread.... I look forward to the gun pics we spoke of.
Cobalt, you are the man sir. I'm done-

Wow, I couldn't listen to anyone teaching a course who didn't allow 1911s.

The problem was solved in 1911, and it has silenced all who oppose this truth, eventually the government wanted to train the soldiers less with less marksmanship training courses and so naturally the are going to need more rounds hence the Beretta m9. The efficacy of the 9mm is sub par at best. Col Jeff Cooper, is quoted to say,
"The nine millimeter is for killing europeans, for truely dangerous people you need a .45." When it comes to firearms I own many platforms but consider the best to be the 1911, many older and wiser share this view.

I did some gunsmithing study under a great gunsmith by the name of Pat Linthicum, he told me that plastic is for the dishwasher, not for guns. I am just staying my opinion, I do not "hate"on glocks or xds, I own them, they are the best thing to start someone on out on. With that being said, they are never placed in a position to save my life either, they live in the safe, my 1911s do all my mileage. It may have more buttons but If you have quality(chip McCormack) mags, I've yet to have a problem. I've owned over 16 1911s of various manufacture, sig, sti, para, Mitchell, Springfield, Wilson, and Taurus, yes Taurus. All have served with the grace and skill of Mr John Moses Browning. The high power was nice just a small bullet. Again only opinion and personal experiences

Maker/model wars, caliber wars and those who say that a handgun is only good for fighting your way to a long gun. The best handgun in the world is the one that works for you, that you can get good hits with, and that you have with you when you need one.
Not looking myself but I would be interested to hear about the collection and you do have the opportunity to trade for some serious INFI here at the forum if that's what you are looking for.
Pete

I value Jeff Cooper's opinion and have read all his books. The point you bring up of his "The nine millimeter is for killing europeans, for truely dangerous people you need a .45." Was valid when Cooper said it because at that time the 1911 was primarily the only pistol chambered in 45acp but that no longer applies. 9mm versus 45 is like arguing black vs white because clearly one is more powerful than the other. Cooper also took large part of the design of the 10mm pistol (Brent Ten) which in his words "The 10mm will do at 50 yards what the 45 will at 25" but I don't think raw power wins most gunfights or competitions. When the SHTF you guys can pack your 8+1 45's and bolt action 1903 Springfield's.....good luck as the same principle essentially applies between the two. I'll pack my modern plastic tuper ware rifle and pistol.

Let's not forget the great thing about guns and knives is that there are many quality makers and calibers and that opinions are like ***holes in that everybody has one including Cooper, gunsmiths and myself but they're not gospel and they all can be the best in a given application just not all of them and so you have to find a balance that works for you. I think Busse knives are the best and HK makes best pistol for me.

With regards to training classes not allowing 1911's.....far more common than you'd think as 1911's today are a far cry from real 1911's of yesterday. What has been improved upon with accuracy was given up in reliability department and I've owned Nighthawks and Ed Brown's. For the record, my brother is chief of a police department in Texas. They switched from a standard issue Glock 35 to Kimberly tactical Custom's and Pro's. That lasted for a couple years and now they're only allowed to carry Sigs, Glock and HK's due to widespread reliability issues with the Kimbers.

Call me a thread hijacker.....Sorry but you gotta love gun and knife talk.

Not officially posting anything for trade, I don't know if I would part with all of these but to give you an idea of where I am.
I have 7 revolvers - (Sig I remembered this first one after I messaged you about the other two)
S and W 38 special with no prefix on SN. My understanding is this means it was a 1915-1940 M and P production.
S and W 38 special Model 10 with a D prefix on the SN.
Colt Detective special 38 snub - blue finish
Interarms 38 special 3" barrel
S and W 38 special airweight internal hammer
Charter Arms Corp 38 special snub
Cabelas Black Powder 44 cal

6 semi auto hand I have anywhere from 2 to 8 mags for each of these guns.
1) Glock 21 .45 Auto w/ streamlight
2) Glock 23 .40 Auto w/ streamlight
3) Walther PK380
4) Beretta .38 Auto (84F Cheetah)
5) Springfield Armory 1911 – A1 .45 auto
6) Walther PK220

Rifles and Shotguns
Remington 870 Tactical
Bushmaster XM15 with 25 mags.....
Ruger 10/22 with archangel M4 Carbine mods
.308 with Zenith 3 12 x 50 scope
A handful of wooden .22 rifles

I also have quite a lot of ammo, extra mags, accessories, holsters and a couple bullet proof (i think) vests. Frankly my dad had a lot of gear that is beyond my level of use and I am still sorting through some of what is what. Everything above I did from memory so don't quote me on anything. Give me a few days to a week and I'll try to put together something more formal to post in the trade forums and I'll let you know when I do. To be honest, probably going to give Jerry first crack at anything he might be interested in, I'm sure you understand... :)

Rwknox, send me pics of the Colt detective special too when you can. Thanks

I would let go of anything pictured gun wise except the Smith and Wesson model 36 with the light walnut grips, that is the bottom left snubbie. Message me with questions....

I hope Jerry sees this...

Anyone read the latest ballistic studies by the FBI...... Long story short..... 9mm, .40, .45, with modern ammo..... One is as effective as the other.

Bout time they figure that out. Dumbest argument I have ever heard is the 9mm vs 40 cal vs 45 cal. Carry/use whichever one you enjoy and shoot the best:thumbup:
