Question about what to do with some old knives

Ikea sells a food-grade mineral oil for wood cutting boards that has no odor. I have been using it for many years - 10yrs. at least - both for cutting boards and for knives.

I love it when you can track packages internationally!!
The Lockwood Ettricks left New Zealand, and landed in Los Angeles.:)
They are currently being held for clearance - probably customs.
Hope the government is being kind to me!

Hmm, in this case would that be International Ettracking then? Just thinking about the journey they have taken together, from Sheffield to New Zealand to Canada, is pretty cool. Watching your own segment of this long history unfold has got to be pretty special. Heck, it is kinda nice to get to sit on the porch as the story unfolds! Thanks.

Hi Fella's :) Glad to see the thread is still going strong ;) I reckon they will get to you in a day or so Charlie!!! This is the last status update I saw: Your item has left the inbound mail centre and is on its way to a local/regional delivery depot
Can't wait to see how much you looooove them :) I know you will. x Iris

The answer is always refurbish and either gift or use them! I'm going to pick up some vintage USA traditionals and return one for myself and one for my father. Looking at some ancient Schrade Stockman patterns.

My receiver has emailed me, and says the knives are waiting for me in Washington!
It's a 45 minute trip to the border, and I will either go tomorrow or Monday!
Getting to my box means there is no duty nor tax owed - yahoo!
I am feeling mighty stoked!!!:D

I hope they arrived safe and sound (eg undamaged). I made sure to wrap each knife in bubble wrap. Let me know what you think Charlie!!! :) Waiting with baited breath.

Woke up early, and mounted up for the border! The nicest thing about Saturday morning is the lonely roads; no traffic to speak of, and the border guards waved me through!!

Signed for my package, and took out my trusty Willamette Wharncliffe!
(I apologize for the poor phone pics!)

Yes, plural, boxes! An even dozen Ettricks!!
When I get to my scanner, I will take some close-ups and some comparison pics, and all that good stuff!
For the discussion, I will also jump over to the "What is the Definition of Ettrick?" thread!
Thanks for selling me these rare knives, Iris, and for packaging them so well!!

Ooooh so exciting! :) Strange to see my own package back but at the other side of the world :) Glad they were packaged well enough to last the distance. I must say I'm impressed with how fast the courier service was!!! So pleased that you now own these Charlie. Can't think of anyone better and more deserving. x Iris

No surprise there! :D ;)

Congratulations Charlie :)

Thanks Jack!
I think you will find the close-up pics and comparisons interesting. There are clues to the age of the knives, if one can interpret those clues!?!
I should get them up on the Ettrick thread later today.

Great Charlie, I can't think of a better custodian for them than yourself. Really looking forward to seeing your pics :)

Very nice score Charlie, if you ever decide to part with one, I am here lol :D

Anyway those are awesome knives by all means.

Mike

Charlie - please bring some of them to the show in April. I'd love to see them.

Dying to find out if my guess of 1930's was correct!!! And whether they are indeed stag or jigged bone!

Thanks Jack!
