As I was working out this morning, I became distracted by the thought of what I had just received the previous day - a brand new Cold Steel Eland to compliment my Kudu, and a pair of Qwik Thumbstuds.

After affixing the thumbstuds, lubricating the pivots, and snapping the Eland open with a satisfactory ratchety-snap, I decide I should be super careful and close it with two hands.

BAD IDEA. My left thumb slipped into the path of the closing razor sharp blade as it closed. Luckily, the resistance from the ratchet feature made it stop shy of shutting entirely.

The real irony is that I wouldn't have injured myself if I used my one-handed method of closing it. Sigh.

About 8 hours later, after some putt-putt golf and batting cage time with a friend:

Mmmm. Delicious thumb meat.

Kudos (and kudus) to Cold Steel for making two fantastic, cheap, awesome, fun knives that I will probably continue to accidentally injure myself with.

Same thing happened to me when I first got my Kudu. It's not really your knife until it's tasted your blood, I suppose. Great blades though.

That needs a stitch or two bro... or at least some superglue/dermal adhesive.

I was eating when I clicked on this. Don't know what I was thinking.
Ow-EE, that knife sure was hungry.
I cut myself not quite that badly once;--my fingernail was not involved at all--kept the finger bandaged, cleaned it, changed the bandage when necessary. Healed well, but I still have a tiny bit of nerve damage in that area several years later.

Yeah...the body can shrug off a lot when the cut is clean...but not that much. I'd get that stitched ASAP or it's probably gonna' heal up ugly. Stitches are temporary, but scars from improper wound care are forever.

Or... you can use a sharpie to give it eyes and take a video of your cut talking to random people. :D

Ya did it good, for this you get  :D

:D in all seriousness tho, take care of yourself brother!

Jeezus..get that stitched, butterflied, stapled whatever they do these days. That's way too much for just a bandaid.

No offense to anyone, but for goodness sakes, it's a cut, not a gaping wound. Super glue can fix it up nearly as good as stitches, be cheaper, and he'll have a nice story to tell about how a fought off a shark that tried to take his thumb.

Stitches are the answer to the problem you haven't yet discovered....

Mini-golf will still be there tomorrow...

Mmmmm, I'm hungry.....I'll think I'll cook up that steak that's been in the fridge....extra rare....my favorite.

Its fine with a properly applied bandaid. Cotton gauze + band aid sticky tape. It needs to be able to not move at all, but still drain while not being so tight as to cut off blood flow. BUT you really need some povidone-iodine or similar antiseptic on that asap.

brand name Wokadine, Pyodine, and Betadine

If you have healthcare the answer is very simple. Hospital or doc.

Goes to the batting cages, takes a swing...

Wicked cut man. Not the best activities with a gash like that.

I had it superglued after the first picture, and the second picture is after I removed the glue before applying a new layer. I glued and bandaged it overnight, and it has healed fairly well and the edges are lined up.

I'm now at work, with the Eland in my pocket :)

Just put some Sriracha on it. Nah, super glue that chit man! Actually, I probably woulda got stitched on that one. I tend to use my thumbs a lot, and that would probably keep busting open...
