I had an older 710 and have a 0452 CF.

The 0452 CF is way way way better quality and i prefer the design too.

But this may well be atleast in part down to the benchmade 710 having been a very old model. (ATS 34 steel.)

Damn, its basically a 50/50 split. Any other thoughts? Also was thinking of putting custom scales on either one, when I do decide. That being said, does anyone have examples of with blade customized? Thanks !

I’m pretty jaded on BM right now due to QC issues I’ve had (given the pricepoint). I just don’t really feel like supporting them in spite of some models with appealing design.
Personal experiences being what they are, I’ve only had excellent F&F from ZT and may wind up with an 0452CF myself before year’s end.

The 710 might win by a nose.
Blade not customized, scales are, but has an amazing REK edge on it and it slices like a demon!

I voted ZT. I've been very happy with my ZT (no 452s) and my BM QC has been iffy as others have said.

A knife is a knife is a knife. IMO, if you want a flipper and/or a frame lock, go with the ZT. If you want an Axis lock, go with the 710. Personally, for the price, I might suggest looking for a 710 in M390 if you are considering the ZT as an alternative.

My personal experiences: my M390 710 had to be sent back for warranty work because the blade tip was awful close to sticking out of the handle when closed. My ZT (different model) in S35VN was good for 3 cuts on R30 fiberglass insulation and then became dull enough to run down my hand without cutting. I then proceeded to cut the remaining 30 cuts with one blade on a $1.99 box cutter. In all fairness, I'm sure most of my other knives would not have held up much better.

I love them both and wouldn't choose between them... therefore I might suggest getting the discontinued model first.
