Question for Esav or any Postal worker for USPS that might know

Ok - keep in mind the transaction does seem to be complete and I anticipate receiving my money once Ebay releases the funds.

The buyer has 11 feedbacks - all positive - in Ebay, with three of them having an "after the fact" comment left by the seller saying this buyer is a scammer.

I talked to two of the other three (one did not reply) and both said the buyer said he received an empty package, one for a sharpening system that was valued over $500 -

The buyer did eventually get his payment, but he had to work on Ebay to get it (buyer's protection).

All that said, here is the information of this buyer, proceed at your own risk.

best regards -

mqqn

Thanks for sharing the ebay ID. It will go on my no bid list.

....also

When I scan a package on the street within 20 seconds it is updated on the website and you can see that it was delivered or notice left. No more waiting for me to download my scanner at the close of business.

Sorry, forgot to answer.....

1 - would the post office keep the yellow card for me to see the signature, and/or provide it as proof of delivery and if so, how do I go about getting a copy of that?
When the carrier delivers the package and it's signed for the scanner captures a electronic photo of the form 3849 (pink) with the signature. You should see that when you look it up on USPS.com-if not that supervisor you talked to should know how to print that out. It is easy.

2 - would the post office have kept the yellow card and not given the package based on the information provided to me from the recipient above?
No. Since it was insured for so much- If his photo ID shows the correct address they should have delivered the package.

Hey, Mono-

Can you explain what happens when I have a package come in that the tracking number never updates on until well after the package has been delivered?

Over the last couple of months I have had a few packages show up in my mail box that still showed as never having been delivered to the USPS. The ebay shipping system issues a tracking number at the time the label/postage is printed and the tracking number is listed in the ebay auction, but if you try to track the number later, USPS says the number has been issued but not received by USPS, but later the packages have still shown up. Then anywhere from a day to 3 days later the package shows delivered finally. ???

I know the in the midwest the USPS computer servers used for tracking were down for about 3 days --that was about 2 weeks ago. Maybe you area was converting over to the new system? It is most unlikely that the sort facility and your home office miss a scan on the same item. Our clerks are required to put a red line on EVERY package they sort in the morning. This is to show it was scanned into the system as "arrived at unit/Out for delivery". That might be post office wide rule-I'm not sure.
Once in a while we get #'s that do not register, but for you to get 2 like that is lottery winning luck.
Let me know if I can help any further.

Hi Monofletch (and citadel) -

Thanks for your input - you are a valuable resource to have on the forum, and I appreciate your sharing of your knowledge.

I have two updates to this thread -

One - the third seller that had posted "post sale" negative comments in the buyers feedback got back to me with the following (and I quote the message exactly) :

"...he bought a $700 Hinderer knife from us, claimed that we sent him the wrong item, and returned a knife to us similar in size & shape & weight, but worth about $20. Ripped us off. Luckily, although eBay sided in his favor, they refunded him- they did not force us to refund him. "

Keep in mind, however, that my transaction with this buyer did go through and I have my money and an email acknowledging that he has the knife. I certainly don't want to post unwarranted negative feedback about someone, but in this case I wanted to lay the facts out for full disclosure. He was never ungentlemanly in his transaction with me.

He does check in here but said he was not a member, so I encourage him to join and help us understand why he has had so much bad luck in so few transactions.

If you do deal with this fellow, send your package registered mail.

best regards

I work for the USPS........

The new GPS tracking is great until they start tracking me instead of the packages.
Do you carry a phone paid for by the USPS? If you do they can track you. My wife worked for the postal system as a carrier, supervisor, and as a clerk. She could check the location of any carrier from the office computer if they were carrying a USPS issued phone.

Update!

Our scammer Steven Sanford's payment was reversed by his bank.

Paypal is covering me through seller protection, but it is official, this fellow is a first class scammer -

I have reported his thieving butt to Ebay and will relate all details to Paypal, including the fact that he picked up the package at the post office and was video taped doing so.

His alternate email address is grayling.at.14@gmail.com - Steven lives in Howell Michigan, just west of Detroit, and he lists himself on his facebook page as being in the National Guard.

Avoid this scammer - he has no money and is collecting expensive knives. Be aware that he notified me he is looking for a ZT0888 - Run from this lying thief.

hey Rick!

Haha - I see Steven has been looking in - he deleted his Facebook page - but, buddy boy, I have all that information saved.

It's people like you that cost all of us law abiding, honest citizens money in the form of added fees and increased costs.

You made several mistakes on this one, Stevie.

Yeah, we all had those phones, but they were used as transmitters not phones. They sent the scanning info to the servers to update delivery status. You are correct- they could track THE PHONE- it updated every 15 minutes A LOT can happen in 15 minutes!!! You had to be creative :D The new scanners are better. It is "live" tracking. They can go on Google maps and see the dot move as the carrier walks.

mqqn- I'm glad things are looking up for you sir. If I can assist you in the future you know were I am.

Do keep us informed of any further updates. It is rare we see situations in the GB&U with a positive outcome. This one appears it could end up exceptionally positive!

Will do - thank you Ranger.

Hi there. New to the forum but have browsed it for years. Ive worked at post office for a long time, 22 in fact. Recently the post office has been using new scanners that have the capability to show the latitude and longitude of when and where the package was scanned delivered they can pinpoint where the carrier was. Hopefully your post office is using this new scanner. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease at the post office, dont quit calling till you get results. Hope this helps.
