I hadn't noticed that detail! Thanks for pointing it out. Its basic construction (free of frills) makes it stand out to me.Love everything about it, it’s my edc and a true user. I get due to its size it’s not for everyone but that should mean there is another one out there for me (looking for another but the current I haven’t found one at an agreeable price).
A tiny aspect that I love is the recessed pocket clip mounting location.
If you're accustomed to it's size (which from the specs seems quite large for an EDC) an SB might be unnoticeable to you. While I agree that Ti framelocks are a bit passé at this point, Spyderco's Slysz line (Techno (1 & 2), Spydiechef, Swayback and of course the Bowie) rival CRKs in build quality, function and value, and represent what Spyderco does best. I love my many CRKs, but their variety is somewhat limited in comparison. Finding an SB is do-able, but rarely at a reasonable price. I purchased mine simply because I really wanted one, price be damned. We all have our moments of indescretion, but I've no regrets.Actually, the lock stick is designed in for a reason. I like the security it offers, I simply use both hands to close it. I have one in my back pocket right now. Never gave the Sylsz more than a passing glance. I'm not a Ti framelock guy at all, but the K2 keeps finding its way back into my pocket.
Trippy, Dude! Did you do the work? I haven't even looked at third party scales, but don't imagine there are many out there.
No, the previous owner did, years ago. Just anodized the stock scales. I’ve never seen third party scales.Trippy, Dude! Did you do the work? I haven't even looked at third party scales, but don't imagine there are many out there.
May I ask why you prefer 10v to K390?I have several, Allan, it's a great knife. Good slicer, and I like 10V better than - say - K390, etc. Also like the minimalistic construction.
Watch for lock stick though. Can be pretty bad.
I didn't realize there was an earlier version. When did that appear and how long was it marketed? Must be quite scarce.I like the original in CPM Rex-121View attachment 1955794
This is an original Custom by Farid Mehr. He collaborated on the design for the Spyderco K-2. The release date of the Custom must have predated the release of the K-2.I didn't realize there was an earlier version. When did that appear and how long was it marketed? Must be quite scarce.
Exactly my thinking as well. I don't care about the intentional lock stick as a safety feature. I think it's more like an excuse for a poorly executed lock. Yes the handle is VERY uncomfortable. I don't like the blade profile either. I decided to return the knife less than five minutes after I opened the package. If the knife is reintroduced without anything being changed, I would not buy it. There you go OP that's my opinion.I picked up a K2 on sale right after they were discontinued and liked it well enough. I like the design and 10v is pretty awesome stuff. However, I found the handle pretty thin compared to the overall size of the knife. A giant folder like that one sort of begs for giant tasks but the thinness made it a bit less comfortable in use than I would have liked. The slabs felt thin but also kind of blocky to me.
Anyway, it's a really nice piece but the ergos didnt work great for me. I'm sure others get on with it just fine but that was my experience. I sold mine long ago and don't miss it too much. I think a Police 4 in K390 is a much better knife overall but it's certainly not a ti frame lock. Good luck with your decision!
