So, my question to you my friends and fellow Chris Reeve addicts.. is simply this.. Is it wrong to purchase a Chris Reeve Knife.. send it to the Spa.. and then sell it as "New" without disclosing that it has had a spa treatment... I think so.. but would like to know what the rest of you think..

Doing that has a name: scam.

Not cool. Honesty is the best policy. I've even disclosed problems with a knife that were corrected under warranty.

As would most of us!! But there are those.. who would not.. I can understand unknowingly selling a knife that has been refurbished.. it happened to me.. and I made it right. But selling a knife that you yourself sent to the spa.. and not letting the buyer know.. wouldn't that be fraud??

It should not be sold as new(NIB is NIB nothing else) and seller should disclose it has been refurbished(to the spa). After this disclosure he can go on to say it is just like he got it back from the spa with no scratches and so on and looks like new. On some items like you buy being to the spa may devalue the item from it's used condition. On other items that are not particularly rare it may increase the value over the used condition. Once it's a used item it always is a used item even if its a good looking one.

Very good point Peter!! I myself would rather have a rare knife that has not been "Refurbished" than one that appears "New" but has had the spa treatment... but that's just me.. do others agree? (that rimes)

100% immoral! No question about it.

immoral... I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head.. some may not agree with you especially in todays society but I do.. if not immoral it is at least wrong.. and at the very least fraudulent..

Definitely shady bro. I haven't been with blade forums long, but have come to find that thankfully the majority of people here believe in American ideals as the founders intended; truth, justice, and freedom for all. Notice that Truth comes first. Honesty and integrity are what defines a stand-up guy from say a politician. Conduct yourself accordingly.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100% SixStringSamurai!! I would say that at least 95+% of the members here on the CRK forum anyway, would not commit such a fraud.. but that leaves the other -5%.. I guess that isn't to bad.. or is it?

YES ITS WRONG on so many levels. It's no longer a new knife and should be disclosed when selling it. I could go on and on......!!!

I didn't see this question before I answered question #2.

Honesty is the best policy!!! Then the potential buyer can base their decision on the facts.

I am of course not surprised by your opinion my friend!! And I am in full agreement..

Mikepapa1,
That 5% represents the the few that apparently want to be "examples". Personally, I think 1% is bad, but, you know, they are 'Free' to try. And risk the retaliatory actions, verbal or otherwise, of the rest of us who want to be good to each other. Caveat Mendax - let the Liar beware!

I agree.. but what if you just failed to state otherwise.. knowing full well that it was refurbished?

And your integrity will be lost forever.
Sell here for $400 new
Sell it here $400 after the spa
What's there to lose.........................

Best to disclose everything, it prevents return shipping costs!!!

The truth will set you free!!

Post Script: CarFax exists, how long before that 5% force us to create BladeFax?
Sad but true my friend! I think Ken had a good Idea.. if CRK would say put a makers mark on the inside of the knife to show that the knife had been back to the spa we could very easily solve this problem.

Not only wrong but stupid. In the first place, based on my experience with the (excellent) spa refinish process on two knives, a close inspection WILL show that the knife is not NIB. In the second place, odds are decent that CRK could 'out' the seller if the buyer sends the knife in to CRK. Dumb and dishonest. :thumbdn:
