Any body know this company? http://www.comp-cons.com/Home.htm

They have 8 of my knives for sale. They also show that apparently you can order one of my knives with or without engraving.

They even took pictures of my knives off my web site in the past.

All I can say is, it looks weird.

A.T.

Never heard of this one A.T. No name/s on the about us page is strange :confused: And what a bad name for a seller of collectables. I wonder if they're hooked up with Jim Mcgee, he is also in Kansas?

From one of my collectors.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A.T.,
You're entirely right to be wondering what's going on. That is indeed the knife my wife bought for me at the 2001 SECKS. I still own it and it's still my work EDC. Something over at CompCons Enterprises isn't completely kosher and "cons" might be just the right descriptive term.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
Dave
What a weird site. they don't say if the knives are new or consignment. From what A.T. has posted it looks like they have knives on their site that are in the possession of others. I think this company should be investigated very thoroughly.
A.T., am I correct in assuming from your post that you don't know anything about this company? But they have an entire page of their site titled with YOUR name and they show 6 of your knives? :eek:
Definitely worth investigating.
I find it unsettling that they are using your intelectual property (pictures off of your site) without even consulting you first. That's just plain rude.
I think it goes beyond rude and all the way to unethical.
Agreed.
The least they could have done was written him for permission. It wouldn't have been a difficult thing to do. They should also at least mention that the pics were taken from his site. Is it possible they are not pictures of the actual knives on consingment?
Hello,
I am sad that Mr. Barr forgot about offering me to be a dealer of his knives.
I have not been successful selling his folders, since (I suspect) that the economy is not that great and selling expensive folders is difficult; although these are high qaulity pieces.
I have a large number of satisfied customers who will gladly testify to my credentials.
Also, see Gun Brokers feedback, and e-bay.
Thank you,
I would have to think that one of the reasons you had (I see you've removed the link from your site) trouble selling A.T.'s folders is that you were advertising at least one knife that you didn't have in your possession. If you're wondering which knife, it was the black lip pearl folder you had advertised for $750.
Hello,
After speaking with Mr. Barr tonight, I learned that his main thrust now is selling inventory of other makers, while still making folders at a somewhat slower pace.
Thus, we have agreed that, since new orders will take a long time to receive, it will be best not to offer this line anymore.
We still have a good number of custom makers that are working on our large orders, and we have a huge inventory of custom and production knives.
We are authorized by several prominent knife companies, and we have great working relationships with top notch custom makers.
We also have prominet exposure on Gun Broker and e-Bay.
Finaly, and most importnat, we have a large base of satisfied customers.
If you want to purchase a knife that we have, or want to place a custom order, we shall treat you well.
We also take knives on consignment and buy single peices as well as collections.
We are also affiliated with our C & M FFL compnay for firearms.
Mr. Ginsburg, I basically remember talking to you back in 2001. If I remember correctly, we discussed you buying my knives with a dealer discount. To protect my customers and dealers, I required a minimum order of three knives. You declined.
In my opinion, if you had really wanted to sell my knives, you would not have left pictures of my knives on your web site that were four years out of date. Up until two months ago, my gallery had all my current production on it. It also disturbs me that you did not state that my knives are not available for immediate deliver and will have to be ordered for a later delivery date.
Either way, as I told you on the phone last night, I want you to remove my name and photos of my knives from your web site.
Sincerely,
A.T. Barr
Dear Mr. Barr,
Some time ago, I was referred to you by Mr. D'Holder, who recommended you for folders.
I spoke with you on the phone, and corresponded with you.
YOU allowed me to post your knives.
I have made many attempts to sell for you as a dealer.
With the economy as it is, I have not been successful selling your knives, but I was hoping to get attention from the web site, and possibly do business with you.
The fact that you forgot about it does not justify a post that puts my site under suspicion.
I am asking you to post a correction.
If you do not wish to do business with me, I shall gladly take off your knives from my site.
Sincerely,
Shlomo Ginsburg
It is my opinion that A.T. Barr is one of the finest knife makers in the custom knife industry today. I have several of his knives in my collection. One of them which is a large one eyed jack that A.T. made for me is the absolute " Piece de Resistance" of my collection
A.T. is also a pure gentleman and a person of utmost honor and integrity. And as A.T. also begins to sell other makers work as a fellow maker I would consider this to be a true achievement to have your knives sold next to customs built by A.T. Barr.
That said. I think it is poor form to advertise and sell A.T. Barr's work or other makers work on your website with out their consent. Selling customs on Ebay is one thing. Selling customs by maker on a website is another.
When I buy knifes from Steel Addiction, or from Blade Art for example I assume that the dealer and the maker have a professional relationship and that they are in contact with each other. This is something obviously this dealer does not have with A.T. does he have relationships with the other custom makers he has photographed on his site??
my .02 cents..
Hello Ren, I appreciate the kind words you spoke of me and my knives. I thank you.
As for the other Internet dealer, we had spoken to each other in 2001. It was my understanding that he would purchase some of my knives when he could afford to purchase the minimum of three knives.
Looking back, I wished I had contacted that web site before I posted my first post yesterday. I had completely forgot the conversation with the gentleman. Obviously, back in 2001 he and I had a communication problem.
Thanks again,
A.T.
"AT Barr Knives are no longer being offered" is what the site says now. My guess is that the other custom knives are in the same category....vapor ware
I believe that I can now confirm his "bogus" status. I asked about prices for the D'Holder knives and he quoted some prices for knives that aren't pictured. When pressed on those specific knives he just says he can't get them "at a fraction of the normal time" -- But I believe he actually does have some D'Holder knives on hand, maybe even some pretty cool ones. But his tone in his emails was pretty snippety.
It sounds to me like he may not have the financial ability, or maybe the desire, to incur the cost of financing a lot of working capital and is hoping to take orders now from customers for future delivery, without investing in inventory....not necessarily a bad business practice in and of itself if customers are willing to wait and the makers are willing to deliver the orders.
And that way you get the wait AND the dealer's markup. Not cool.:thumbdn:
