Question On My GIB Build.

You can. Just make sure if you ever want to add tilt, that you can still get to it. I mounted mine to the bench, since I put the whole thing on a 9" riser on top of the bench for comfort and tilt clearance.

I bent a piece of flat bar 45° at both ends to make a mount. One end on bench, one end on my riser. It located the vfd perfectly for me.

Cooter can go to McMaster Carr website and search gas spring.

Shortest one is 4138T51

Also if your vfd is mounted direct to frame make sure it has rubber washers between as the vibration can damage the vfd

Well the Beast Motor is bolted on. It ain't purty , but there is 3-4 weld passes plus the splice. Motor is almost as big as the frame. Hope I don't have to chase this thing around my shop when I fire it up. You can see in the one pic where I put a mount for the motor body to rest on.

Hmmmm, I don't like the idea of risking my VFD . I might relocate it before firing it up. I want to avoid taking any chances. Thanks for the heads up.

I use 3 different grinders so I mounted the VFD centrally and use a rotary switch to select which grinder to supply power to. If you plan on adding grinders like a flat disc in the future think of where it would be accessible and away from vibration.

Thats a great idea. With all the motors I have I am sure if I get passionate about this I will build a disc grinder. Plus the old arthritic hands may limit me. We will see. If it doesn't work out for me, well I guess some folks will get some deals on equipment. But I am keeping a positive attitude.

You are not alone in the Old Guy category...Take care of your hands do some flexing and stretching exercises of you hands and fingers rest when you feel like you're brain and hands are not on the same page!!!

LOL, how well and quick we figure out the brain likes to play games. Getting into some new equipment or hobby is like getting a girlfriend half your age. UH-OH , WTH now ? This might not end well.

I gave up the girlfriend for more cash to buy more tooling:cool::cool:...definitely cheaper than her nails and shoes:eek::eek:

You got that right. Ok now I need to figure out my wiring on this 3 hp Baldor, the wiring plate is not in good enough shape to read. Wire box has 9 wires in it. They have 1&7wire nut together, 2&8 together and 4&5&6 together and last 3&9 . I have this new KBAC29 but I am not getting it. Maybe I need to read it word for word. Anybody got a clue or know of a Youtube or site ? Thanks in advance.I will not hold anybody liable for information. I just want to check what the Licensed Electrician does. :)

Get it figured out?

I have a diagram saved somewhere lemme see if I can find it. If you can't find an electrician a lot of hvac guys deal with similar motors.

Yes sir, got it done. Not sure how much speed you need for grinding. I have this 1740 I think hooked to the KBAC29 and turned it up to max. I don't think it doubled it tho. Now I gotta research making my tool arms to hold platen, and tool rest, and big wheel.

It kind of depends on your experience up to now. I have to remind myself to turn the speed all the way up (around 5000 sfpm for my set up) when I'm at the lower grits. It seems way fast, because my older setup wasn't nearly as fast. The results are way better since I'm using my ceramic belts to their fullest potential by going fast. My rule of thumb is go as fast as possible as long as the work isn't getting hot, and i'm not using small wheels. For small wheels, I don't go past maybe 20%, which for my setup is around 1000 sfpm. for wood I usually stay around 50%- 2500sfpm or so.

No Experience . So it will probably be fast enough for me to still mess up.LOL
BTW, How important is reverse on a grinder ? It wouldn't be a big deal for me to add it. Thanks again.

I don't have it and I don't feel I'm missing anything. Some people like it for sharpening. I just sharpen edge down on mine and i don't have any issues.
