question on the selling forums, why do folks remove the prices

Do you think the Hinderer market would be so soft right now if everyone left up the 600-700 prices they were getting a year ago?

I was thinking about this recently when seeing the 0392 prices all over the place. I think pricing has gone down because there are actually a lot more retailers selling XM and Eklipse knives than ever before. More supply can create competition so the prices drop. The previous prices seen were from a time when the production was extremely limited and before everyone and their uncle started their own knife company with their CNC/water jetted parts. You have to admit, in the last 5 years the number of makers has almost tripled, it's been crazy. I bet a Gen 3 Spanto with no stamps can still bring in $600-$700 to the right person, as opposed to the more readily available stamped/lasered current production models. Just a guess on my end.

Sellers choice..
Their thread..
Their way they choose to delete or keep it up..
Holding the SELLER/TRADE accountable for handling
Their thread they way you feel they should handle the thread
is simply absurd..

Your thread..(Follow the rulz) After deals are complete.
You do with what you wish.
I personally as of lately have removed my price. ALTHOUGH my choice..
But for a few ..I left the pictures for further reference in the future.

I agree 100%. Still, My preference is to see price and pics, post sale. It helps me to price items competively, and avoid watching my thread fade, because it was priced too high. I don't mind if it fades, because no one is interested. Still...your thread-your call.

There's several variables that make leaving price not an accurate gauge. A deal can involve a trade or maybe they sold it for half of what they were asking. For me why I like to see the price is if I missed something I been looking for I want to see what kinda deal someone else got so I can kick myself harder for missing a good deal and beating myself up for not having been on bladeforums.:)

I leave it like this- " $125 **SOLD** "
Unless I accepted a lower offer through pm or email, in which case I usually delete the price.

I just posted the following comment (see below in italics) in the "Sale" forum, regarding the removal of prices after a sale. I guess I'm not sure what the motivation is to get the price off the forum so quickly but most sellers tend to do it.
In the case referred to in my comment below, the knife was only listed for about an hour when I first saw it, and the price had been take down even though the sale was still "pending funds". I fully understand that the seller has the right to do whatever he/she chooses with their post but I guess I just don't understand the need to remove prices.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the reason for this practice.

Just curious. Why do people pull the price on these sales so quickly. How could I make a back up offer (since the sale is still pending funds) if I don't even know how much you want for the knives. Wouldn't it be okay to leave the price up until the sale is actually complete. Is there a benefit I am not thinking of, in removing the price so quickly.
Just sayin'.

Unless you stipulate "firm" prices, someone will come along and say "I can pay twenty dollars less than your asking price." I call 'em bottom-feeders, like carp.
If a seller says "my asking" price, then seems permissible to offer five or ten less, as it seems as though he is ready to haggle.
Nobody knows anything for sure.

On another forum I've sold on it's actually a violation to remove the price post sale. I try not to do it on here as well out of habit.

Taken from their rules page:

"Do not delete ad text or subject lines.*Doing so may result in a temporary suspension from the site. Leaving the subject lines and prices intact allows others to search items out and gauge current market value."

There are two things that really annoy me on forums... 1. prices being removed after the item is sold. 2. people who say "I want what I paid"... most of the knives and other items that I have sold on (other forums) I have asked Less[/B ]than what I paid... I've had my enjoyment out of the item, even if I haven't used it. I except that some items do increase in value if they become rare / no longer produced. At the moment I am after a flamed Rick Hinderer Extreme Duty pen to replace one I recently lost and because it was my favourite pen I am prepared to pay a higher price than they sold for (even for a used one). I think it is important to know a rough idea of the asking prices so that you can determine what you would need to pay to get a given item.

I agree! A lot of times, better pics are available on sales threads here than on web stores. I like to browse the latest knives here.

I do not expect to research prices though, and the Exchange rules allow sellers to leave them or delete them.
I remove my pics because imgur only allows a certain number. When you go over the number the oldest pics get dropped off the back end.

You know, when I started this thread I had no idea how many different answers I'd get. Either way, good info, thanks for all the opinions!
