Question to Buck 112 & 442 owners

That seems to be the case Trax...I myself prefer the longer chamfer which creates the appearance of a much longer blade...
As a working knife, I gotta tell you that little 112 was a beast when I needed it to be. The thick, short blade was perfect for the type of work it needed to do. Just a great knife!

All right, I don't have a 112 although I love it. I'm kind of holding out for a custom but I'm not holding my breath. I have always thought it had the perfect blade length for me. I do have a 422 so that has held me over, it's an awesome, lightweight, tough knife. I wish they still made it with the clip blade. I haven't measured it but I do recall many months ago (while still in the lurking stage) reading a post where a guy asked if his Bucklite with a 112 stamped blade or vice versa was an oddity and someone who knows, either CJ or Joe or Larry answered and said they were interchangable so it wasn't too odd. I hope this helps some, I have no idea how to find that thread as I can't recall it's topic (and it was probably a hijack question anyway!!!!)

With all this talk about knives with "other" blade shapes and with Trax showing us so many examples of what "could have been" ...my tastes tend to be a bit more simple than some folks. I do feel the need however for a shot at a 112 with a drop point blade. Gimmee yer address Trax...I got a couple I'm sendin' out to ya...heh heh heh...   :D

I think along much of the same lines as you Darryl. What I'd like to see if Buck ever offers the 112 in the custom shop is an option for a throw back blade....a custom 112 with the original blade shape and without the nail nick that it came with and in S30V steel.

...I firmly agree with you on that Mike it would truly be nice to see that "retro" look on a 112. They have such a pair of "winners" with their 110's and 112's don't they?? Change designs and appearances all you want...these two are gonna be around a long time...

I am going to do a drop-point 112 next, in fact, I've already stripped the frames down...it'll be a dual again, and a clip + drop...I haven't seen any 422's on eBay, but there are a bunch of 442's...

If I can't find an existing drop point, I'm also looking at reprofiling a clip-point 112 blade to drop point...That nail nick is a nuisance; it's in the way... :grumpy:

BTW: I tried to answer a certain members' question in private; but he has no email or PM in his profile...and I don't want to be Aunt Blabby here... ;)

...Trax...I just measured my neighbor's 442...Length of blade is 3.017...Hole centerline to top of blade is .502...Looks the same as a 112...

Thank You, DarrylS!!! :) Is the blade pivot pin off-center toward the "hook", do you recall??? (I wonder why there's no visible rockerbar pivot pin???)

Oh, yeah - was it a drop-point??? :D (Or are all 442's drop-points???)

...Sorry...I'm breading shrimp and snapper for tonight and runnin' in here as I get a chance...LOL...The offset is there and it's a clip point...It's a 442X stamped knife with a black plastic-like handle...Hope this helps Trax...

I guess I'm just "old school" I'd really like to see the original blade offered in S30V steel as an option if they ever offer a 112 custom. :D

Too bad...I was hoping to lure you over to The Dark Side... :D

I made up a center liner for the dual 112 this morning; cut, ground, filed, and buffed it to fit...The 2nd 112 was stripped down last night; I modified my jig to accept 112's as well as 110's; it worked *excellently*...All pins pushed right out with no problems... I'll be using the outer liners/scales from this 2nd one for the dual 112, plus the rockerbar/spring/spacer from the 1st 112 [the one that gave up its blade for the dual clip 110] plus the blade (hopefully!) from the 442 that I "won" on eBay...It's getting hard to keep track of all these parts...

Here's another question...Since both of these blades (clip & drop) will be the same length, which side should each one be on??? For the dual 110 [clip + drop] I put the drop on the near side, as looking at the nail nick...more for show than utility, since the drop was lower than the clip and the two nicks kind of showed up better, I thought...

One offhand observation: It is much harder to disassemble one of the Bucklite 426's than it is to disassemble a 110...I suppose this might be because brass has natural lubricity...the pins slide out easier...
