Question to Jeff & Mike about up comming RAT Boonie hat

Whatever hat it is, it must be lined with a survival pack.:D

how about a zipper around the brim so that if you bend it in half and inward then zip it, it is the survival pack? :p

but yeah OD green #1 would be my choice, and if water resistant, all the better

Any chance of the Boonie RAT ( :) oh snap!) having Velcro fields on the back?

One of the modifications that I do to my boonies is add Velcro fields to the back. This allows for the easy affixing and removal of cat/ranger eyes. I have come to appreciate these when on night hikes or when moving to a hunting spot with a buddy before first light.

I used to just sew the cat eyes on but with the Velcro it is nice to be able to remove them. Also, since I cut my "cat eyes" into bar shapes, the Velcro lets me configure it in specific patterns so not only can I see someone in front of me, they can have a unique pattern, so I know who is in front of me. For example, someone may have the bars vertically, another person in my hunting party may have their bars horizontally, etc. I know a large portion of the RAT market are military and LEO. They may find these features useful.

I also sometimes add Velcro to the under side of the brim in the front. Then by adding Velcro to a keychain style light like the LRI Photon, I can make an improvised head light for hands free use.

how about plain dry earth tan... multicam, 6 color desert and vietnam tigerstripe are my favorites and the most effective I think. If RAT puts their logo on anything with ACU pattern I think I'm going to poop my new pair of eddie bauer jeans.

Matthew how does that little compass work? I would like to have a compass like that if it works.

Ranger eyes are pretty useless IMO, we never used them much-like anything velcro, when you're crawling through the thick stuff which is where you should be anyway, it gets torn off, leaves a trail, makes noise...

Color wise, I'm for Field Gray, Sage Green, Black or Tan.

As for webbing, with or without, machts nichts to me.
