My brain clicks on the venerable KaBar MKII or a Randall. That's just what comes to mind quickly for me is all.

I think that the Kabar is the first knife that comes to mind when most people think of a soldier with a knife.

Way back in my time I had the common Camillus , actually two of them. Half way thru my tour the first one sprouted legs somehow and dissapeared so I had to get another one. I think this knife would be a good choice nowadays.

That would be my choice. Did you hear about the M4 is being phased out in favor of an HK416? I'm a long-time fan of HK pistols and rifles mainly because of the reliability and accuracy.

didnt know that. id take an hk over a m4 anyday but i also like the m16/m4 platform. just like hk better except for the price of course.

Combat blade to me means stout but not too heavy to add to your kit, pokey, simple, not shiny, a bit of a guard... srk would do it
