Ok, this may be off topic. But I was doing a search on Scotch and this forum seems to have the most knowledge about scotch. So I am not interested in the knives, but would like some advice on scotch.

I want to keep it under $80. What would be the best I could get? Sorry if this post is an annoyance. I searched, but I was reading about scotches that are way over my price range I think.

Thanks

Pig's Nose at $25.00 per bottle rivals the greatest scotch of all time, Johnny Walker Blue, which weighs in at about $225.00 per bottle!!!!

Cheers!

Drinking some Glenfiddich 12yr right now. Very tasty and only $35 a bottle. Very common single malt too so you should have no problems at all finding it.

There are many great single malts to try that cost less than $80.00. Most of the Scotch "Classics Malts" are less than 80.00 per bottle. Try some of the 10year old Scotch single malts, many great ones are in the $40.00 to $50.00 range.

Check your news stand for a magazine like http://www.whiskymag.com/ for news, tastings and reviews.

Get yourself a good book on scotch whisky, I like Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2006 or 2007. The Whisky Bible has over 2,000 whiskies tasted, evaluated and rated by Jim Murray. The book covers all types of whisky including Scotch (single malt, blends, vatted malts, and single grains), Irish (pot still, malts, blends, grains), Bourbon, rye, Japanese, Canadian, Australian, European and others.

thanks. I was at a party and had some scotch that was incredible and I have been into typical wiskeys and bourbons, but this scotch was great and all I know is that it was a scottish wiskey and that it wasn't horribly expensive but wasn't crap either. It had a fairly dark color to it unlike Grouse that I have had in the past.

I start with stuff around $150-180 a blt and drink my way down to $18 a btl when I have no idea what I'm drinking. This way I keep my average cost at aboout $32 and only remember the good stuff.

I learned this from a guy that last time I was at the Betty Ford clinic:thumbup:

Try a MacAllan -- it can be rather dark. Tastes great...and under $80.00 for several of the basic versions.

Oh...and the Tomintoul isn't bad, either!

I'm a Macallan fan. Any year 10, 12, 15,etc. Also Glenfarclas, any year.

A quote (not by me!).

"Scotch has very little damaging effect on the body. It is classified as a 'clear liquid.' This means it passes right through the the liver, kidney and the rest of the body doing absolutely no harm. This doesn't mean that it won't get into your bloodstream and get you drunk, just that there won't be any lasting damage. Doctors will, if pushed, reluctantly admit to this."

Yeh! Right!

I'm glad this came up again. I was asked today, if I would like a bottle of anything from the liquor store. So I went with them and pestered the ladies for awhile. I was offered whatever I wanted, and was overwhelmed at the choices. Not remembering anything mentioned by you fine gentlemen, other than Pig's Nose and JW. Neither was available, so I went with Knob Creek. Here I sit, debating over it's opening. It's the most expensive booze I've had since my 20s.

Funny! I'm guilty of that... Just found a bottle of rum, Bacardi select dark, or something... glass shows the year on the bottom... '98, LOL I keep forgetting about it. Grey Goose in the freezer... 02, I think? Both uncracked. I have a drinking problem... Apparently, I don't drink ENOUGH! LOL
