Questions of a born-again "knife guy"

I'm going to play devils advocate, and recommend that you find another hobby.

If you are breaking CRKT, SOG and Spyderco knives then you are either cursed by the gods, or you are secretly Noss4.

The Hest is very nice, and I would add the Benchmade Onslaught.

I get your point. But the tendency for failure on the Spyderco Navaja carraca is a pretty well known issue, and not indicative of knife abuse. It has nothing to do with the actual function of the knife as a tool and is, IMHO, just a "toy" feature that Spyderco puts on that model. I find it rather offputting in general to have a knife with some non-functional design element it in, and all the more so when that non-functional design element appears to break easily.

If you can find one, a BM Gold Class Griptilian. Carbon fiber, M4 and the Axis lock, and should be in your price range.

Nah you can get an XM-18 in like a minute. Just know which websites to buy from; same with a Sebenza if you check the right online retailers at the right times.

XM-18 is gonna run anywhere from 400-580ish and honestly, anywhere in that range is about right most of the time; as they are not mass produced and that means it's about supply / demand / location.

Rick's table price if you're lucky enough to win a raffle is around $385. Please email me the dealers you know. I have some cash and I'd like to double it. I'll throw a few $$ your way, promise.

I agree to shoot for a Sebenza or a Hinderer and settle the matter. I did a long time ago and it's saved me lots of time & money trying out folders. :)

are you talking about that Sanrenmu company from China that sells the $10 knives ? . if so stay away from those, they are not very good knives.they also make counterfeit axis locks.

I disagree, they're great knives at that price point. Unlike many of their local competitors, at least they try to make their knives different rather than direct copies and the Fit and Finish is very good for the price. They're also a good starting point for practicing "pimping" a knife without worrying too much about ruining it. I have a couple I use as "beaters" as it's no biggee if they get lost or broken. I like them but I would never kid myself that they're "original" or just as good as the models/brands they hint at being. While we might not like it, there's no getting away from the fact that they keep churning out knives at these price points. If we don't buy the ones that are at least trying to be original, they'll go back to flooding the market with cheap copies and selling them to the gullible and the wannabees

i got my first ZT 0300 a few weeks ago and i am sold on them. they are a little big, but they are built like tiger tanks! check them out!

It's not about the $$$ spent on a knife. But I do feel the adage "You get what you Pay for." applies when making a user tool purchase.
My recommendations - ESEE Ezula, or a Spyderco Manix II.

Have you looked at the ZT 550 Hinderer designed knives? They go for about $200 and have CPM-S35VN steel. The 551 is about $250 due to Elmax steel. 560/561 ZT Hinderers are around $260 and are Elmax also.

I was just about to mention ZT.:)

Could you please pm me or e-mail me with a link to where I can get an XM-18 at those prices?

In regard to the OP, I would recommend the Paramilitary 2 if you want to stay under $200. Emerson's are also very nice knives and can be had at or under $200 although some are more. That being said, if money allows, I would go for an SnG or Sebenza if you are thinking about venturing into high-end knives. I have both and personally have grown to like my SnG more.

I like the 0300 for its bigger size, but it needs to be moded.

This is turning out to be an interesting thread!

Can I get an email about the Hinderers too?
I think they're going to be the one for me, the website even says you can pry 'em :D

As for the ZTs I have given them a lot of those but if I got a hinderer design one I'd feel like I should have added a bit more (okay, more than a bit) and gotten a real Hinderer every time I used it
Hard to explain

@Mr trooper- How about Steve Irwin incarnate?

There's no substitute for this in my pocket. :D

Very jealous of ya'! Do you have an Strider? If so, how would you compare them? Really have to find myself one. Hoping whatever dealers Tim616 knows have some 3" or 3.5" flippers in stock. If they really are for that price and reputable dealers, I'll buy one ASAP! :D
