Questions of a born-again "knife guy"

Very jealous of ya'! Do you have an Strider? If so, how would you compare them? Really have to find myself one. Hoping whatever dealers Tim616 knows have some 3" or 3.5" flippers in stock. If they really are for that price and reputable dealers, I'll buy one ASAP! :D

I just have Hinderer folders, no Striders. Some guys like them but they don't have a titanium liner under the g-10 scale and the lockup is stiff or loose or just right depending on which one you end up with. I've heard guys post that they've never had an issue, others post it took them hundreds of openings to break the lockbar in and others that have blade-play and various gripes. If you read enough post about them you'll hear the complaints. I never read a complaint about an XM-18 or 24 except the price or a few who said they didn't like them for some reason or another.

Strider tang cutouts have a steep, cupped, design where the lockbar engages that just looks like trouble waiting to happen and very often is in the end. I happen to love my XM-18s and 24s, they're semi-custom or mid-tech but I can't find a folder to kick them out of my pocket. I bought and sold 4 lg Sebenzas in the past 2 years, they just didn't inspire the confidence that Hinderer folder does - and I LOVE flippers!

Still, it'll do good work until I find "the one"

Welcome to my sickness, when you find "the one" it won't be long until another "one" comes along. Several hundred dollars ago I came to this site looking for "the one".

I have an SnG and it's perfect other than the blade being VERY slightly off center. Smooth, rock solid lock-up, and f&f on mine isn't too bad. I have handled Hinderers though and love them since I too really like flippers. They are also just very well made. Just as solid as my SnG but more refined. The pricing is the only thing standing in the way for me. Its an incredible knife, I just couldn't bring myself to pay the INSANE marked-up prices. Thanks for the info.

Can I get a email about the Hinderers too Tim?

Of course (although as I've recently been informed if you live in NY specifically; I won't be able to help out; send me a visitor message with your email as I was not able to email you through BF you just don't have the email option visible or enabled)

Sounds great man!

Hello,
I own a large classic sebenza with mammoth ivory inlays. Great knife to be sure! Recently I picked up a Spyderco Bradley and my first ZT, a 0350 combo edge. Both were around $115 shipped. They are truly great knives for the price or any price really. Bottom line for me is there is no magic price point...the magic is in the knife and your expectations.
Best...
