Questions on carry methods

I have a few knives that I would love to carry but can't get comfortable carrying them. Two of these for example would be a trapper pattern and a cheetah pattern. I know I can carry them vertically next to my wallet in my back pocket but I worry about loosing them. Plus every time I want to remove my wallet I have to remove the knife as well. I really love the size and shape of the trapper pattern and with two more trappers on the way to me I would really like some opinions on how I can carry them without having this thought in the back of my mind (losing it).

My cousin carries one in his right front pocket but I tried that and it's quite large when it turns sideways, maybe a suggestion I had a while back about a handkerchief in pocket to absorb some of the way it sits in the bottom of the pocket. I have been experimenting with everything from peanuts to stockmans and the congress pattern. So far everything works out pretty good but the larger patters do have me stumped. I do have a leather pouch for my Russlock but 75% of the time I am in a dress shirt and slacks and I don't like the idea of the pouch on my side. Pocket carry is best for me and plus it helps keep folks from eyeballing me. ;-)

I've been looking at the William Henry clip cases. They really look like a good carry option to me.

Okay, first, forget about a wimpy handkerchief. Take a bandana, and just shake it out, then wad it up and shove it down in your right pocket. Then stick your pocket knife down in the pocket where you wnat it.

The other way would be to sew up a section of your pocket to make a pocket inside the pocket where you want the knife to stay. I just use a wadded up bandana muself. Works 99% of the time.

Maybe I will get a bandanna and give that a whirl Jackknife. I had the right idea but didn't hit the mark, I am new to this (sort of) I will catch on. I checked out the back room leather site and it has some stuff that can help me out.

yeah, try the bandana. Don't fold it up, or roll it up, just wad it up and let it take up some space toward the rear part of the pocket where you don't wnat your knife to end up. It's worked for me pretty good.

Here's another method from Ron Ryder..

I "modified" it by braiding some heavy mono fishing line, epoxying the loops over, covered glued area with shrink tubing and replaced the leather strap.

I like my knife resting in the "rear part of the pocket" and had my wife sew a small "belt loop" back there, 2'' up from the bottom to hold it in place. Depending on closed length variations, etc. you can get by with one, or a second, sewn higher up. And keep the loop on the loose side.

It tool me a week to get used to my trapper in my front pocket. I wear jeans mostly. You get used to it. It's like wearing a watch. when you dont have it on you miss it.
A guy at work sewed a line up his ocket so the knife stayed upright. Thats another option. I say just keeep it in your pocket until you get used to it. A trapper carries well in jeans.

1. Do a line of stitches in the liner of the pants pocket to create a little slot for the knife.

2. Look for pants with deep watch pockets. I have a pair of jeans with a watch pocket that will swallow a GEC #23.

Foilist, I think some of the patterns like the trapper being right up ther look rather well it the watch pocket.

i just carry my wallet in my front right pocket (never could get used to rear pocket carry of anything) and my trapper stays vertical right next to it and never falls out if i take my wallet out.

I carry them like you initially suggest and have never lost one. I find if you place it on the outside edge of the pocket the wallet has less tendency to grab the knife on the way out.

many nylon sheaths were made in 80s & 90s . I HAVE SEVERAL THAT ARE MADE FOR HOROzontal carry . should be able to get them at the gun shows. lightweight & confy, easy access & you do'nt know you are even wearing them. plenty of leather ones are made but i find leather too heavy.

When my package arrives I will get a trapper and try a few methods and see what works best. Is it normal to feel so excited about a package coming? :-)

woohoo Just got 9 slippies in the mail today from my buddy, they are all very nice indeed. Carried a AG Russell Barlow with what appears to be a handle material like G10, micarta or something that is layered in that fashion, anyone got an idea?
