Quick Deployment Folders.

In my admittedly limited experience the quickest deploying Emerson has been the Karambit carried reverse grip and waved forward.

How so? I like the Spyderco P'Kal wave better than the Kershaw waves.

My Talwar has always fully deployed every time. It's the only waved knife I've had. I've come to the conclusion that I don't care for the feature. I wished it had a thumb stud instead. Too bad, because it's a great knife in hand.

I had comparison to Emersons with wave, Talwar is better - always deploy and has better lock for such feature. Ti liner lock isn't the best choice for waved folder. After some time you will have lock issues. Triadlock after hundreds of openings with wave is still solid. Mine, with smaller, custom thumb disc still work like manufacture pieces.

I've always had more luck with the Emerson style wave, the cold steel thumb disk would fully open about 75% of the time. Even a zip tied spyderco is more reliable for me than the thumb plate.

I'm not a huge fan of the wave. I used to own a bunch of autos, but now I only have one (sentimental reasons). What I like most is the unassisted Benchmade Axis lock. You can flick it open very quick, and even quicker if you pull back the lock. More importantly to me, you can reverse the action just as easily and quickly. You only need one hand and you're not putting your thumb or finger in the path of the blade like a frame/liner lock or lockback. At work when I'm cutting something open, I flick it open, cut what I'm cutting, flick it closed, and it takes about 3 seconds.

If you're looking for something for self-defense rather than general utility, the wave might be what you're looking for.

I haven't had any Emersons, but I can confirm the Talwar's wave plate works wonders, and mine is reliably opening and vault like locking, no movement at all, after hundreds of waved openings.

Hard to beat a TriAd for abusive opening, and the Wave is excellently designed in all CS I own, especially the Rajahs and Talwars

I agree, waving opn a knife is a "hard" opening. The spyderco P'Kal has the caged ball lock, kinda like an axis, it is fully up to the challenge. What I prefer with the spyderco is their little rod for waving open is longer and a slightly different angle than the Kershaw waves, thus it opens easier and in a wider variety of pocket carry positions.
