Quick review on Tan Buck-Strider Military folder..

Jeff,
You've got quite a talent for "pimping" knives! Thank you for your time, pictures, and your review of this knife. I may just have to get one (the one with green scales is calling out to me) and send it your way for a proper "pimping". Very nice work!

Best wishes,

Hey man thank you for yet another great compliment...
I would love to be able to take ya up on the offer but this was my first attempt at this kind of thing... I have been asked by a few other people also to do it to theirs too .. But man with out having more practice at this I would feel that it may not turn out just like this one.. or I might mess it up and I really don't have the funding to replace them if something were to go wrong.. But man I really want to get some more experience in this so I could feel confident to be able to work on other peoples knives.. That would be very cool.. I am pretty sure I could do it with out defacing it but if something went wrong at this point in time I would not be able to replace the items..Thank you though for the extreme complement though..
~Jeff

Man i had the idea to do this when i saw the knife the first time. As soon as i saw what you did on here, i have to do it. I got a few different surprises up my sleeve, so maybe we should have a "Pimp your 889" contest." As soon as i sell some crap laying around my apartment i'll get one made. Damn college budgets.

Very nice job with the customization. Looks like it was made that way.

I have a Strider SMF and it is my favorite knife. One of my favorite things about it is the way it feels. It is very comfortable, but above all, very secure in every grip.

The Buck SBMF is cool because it offers the same amazing feel of the SMF, but for a much lower price. The real Strider is, of course, much stronger and uses better materials, but the Buck version is strong enough for most people. No problem with the Buck at all.

But I must ask: Do you have large hands or is the SBMF actually the size of the SNG and not the SMF? From your pics, the SBMF looks smaller than the SMF but you may just have larger hands than me.

The Buck is the middel of SNG and SMF!
Not so "small" like the SNG but not so "large" like the SMF! :)
And so its perfect for every one who whants in the middel! :D

Looks like it came right off the Strider table, very cool. It's really amazing how close these are to the SnG.

Just revisiting an old post .. Man I really miss that knife.. I sold it to a guy on CPF forum that really wanted it, with the intention to do another one for myself because how fun it was to mod this one.. I think I may see what buck is offering now that can be tinkered with in this style.. Maybe something with a bit more of a harder steel.. not to knock the steel on this one, There is nothing wrong with a easy steel to bring the edge back up on.. But lately I have grown to like the D2's and S30v's for awesome edge retention.

Thanks again guys for all who commented on this review.. after looking at it again, I was pretty amazed at how good it turned out for being my first pimped out knife project.. now it is common practice for me to do at least something to every knife I get to make it more mine..

Jeff

Jeff,
Buck makes that design in ATS-34, but the cost is about double.
Based on your experience with the 420HS version, do you think that is worth it? Or would you look for some one else's design?

Do they make the ATS-34 in black coating? (just for the striping mod)..

But even if not I really like this design and ATS-34 is a plus and would be worth it IMHO. Hard to beat the grip style and even at double the price it is still bunches cheaper than a real Strider..

The ATS-34 versions are not made with the black coating. There's an outfit that makes a DIY kit for putting a black oxide coating on stainless steel, though.

Thanks for the report. Reports like yours are why I spend time here.
