resin soaked pine!!!

I'll admit that I had difficulty finding fatwood until it was explained how to find it. By looking for stumps of pine that don't decompose.

i dont think so ive looked but never found any in dead or alive cedar trees. but im novice compared to alot guys here

Fatwood can sometimes also be called pitchwood, as it is indeed ordinary wood from a tree, that has been saturated via natural means, with the pitch of the tree. I do believe most trees which contain some kind of resinous pitch, possibly also including cedar, can be a source of some kind of fatwood. (Don`t quote me on the cedar part, as i`m not too familiar with it.)

Here`s a link to a good source to explain what fatwood is: http://funditor.110mb.com/wiki/index.php/Pitchwood

This guy contradicts himself. In one sentence hes getting fatwood from what he claims to be a cedar stump, then he says the fatwood is full of pine resin.

no prob man everything great we do together if we as a species were alone we wouldnt last long shareing ideas and things. that what make us great..

Cedar trees lack many of the characteristics associated with fatwood producing trees. The resin content is minimal. It won't bleed if cut and like birch(another one of my "fire" trees), there simply isn't enough sap to settle in a dead tree. Athough it lacks resin, cedar does have many other great attributes associated with fatwood.... it burns when wet... isn't prone to rotting... repels most insects and smells great!

Thanks Mag.I didnt know. On the video that I posted, the man said it was a cedar stump. He must have been mistaken..
