Well, my 1000th post came and went without event. I know it is customary for folks to run a contest to show their appreciation for the forum as well as for others. I'm sorry, but I simply don't have the means to run any type of give-a-way.
I like to think that I've been a part of this forum for a while. I may not be the most active participant at times. I don't have any blade modifications named after me, although I'm working on it. I don't make custom sheaths. I haven't made it to any gatherings. Still, I like to think that I am a member of this community, and therefore have an interest in the way it is run and how it continues to grow.
With that said, I've been noticing a really disheartening trend lately. A lot of people seem to be forgetting that this is a hosted forum by KA-BAR and Becker. In other words, this isn't your house. If I ever have the pleasure of having any of you over at my house, I would frankly find it rude if when you came in, you found it necessary to criticize my home, my offerings, or my family.
Lately, however, as I drop into KA-BAR's home to chit-chat, I'm noticing a large amount of criticism and negativity focused towards them. Everything from really, truly, insulting comments about sheaths, handle slabs, QC, warranty wording, etc. You don't like it? Fine. Change it. Mod it. Buy an alternative. We'd love to see them, but go easy on it. Some of the comments are just down right mean spirited towards a company and people, human beings, who provide us with fantastic products, amazing customer service, contests with free, expensive swag, direct answers from senior employees and designers, etc. For crying out loud, show some respect. As customers, we keep KA-BAR running. No doubt about that. However, I think KA-BAR has been doing a pretty good job at not biting the hand that feeds them. Let's try and reciprocate.
Sure, this is the internet. Free speech. Right to an opinion. Blah, blah, blah. I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that while we are all paying customers, and customers have the right to satisfaction, keep in mind that some things might be best taken up with KA-BAR directly. Somethings need not be said, especially in their own home. You have a grievance? Call KA-BAR. 800-282-0130. PM Toooj or Ethan. But please, whatever you do, have some manners.
Thank you, Moosez45, Bladite, Guyon, Ethan and Paul. Thank you for everything. Keep up the good work.
Maybe when I hit 2000 I'll be able to give back more to this forum than just my big mouth.
