I'm sorry, where did you read that Uncle E pays for the forum? I must have missed it. I thought paying members like you and me pay for the forum...

I mean't he pays to host the sub-forum... Again, I read it back in my stalking days (I only last days before I registered), it was in another, not controversial, but thread of divided opinions.

You pay to be a Gold Member of Blade forums. The manufacturer sub-forums are hosted by the manufacturers. What they pay, or if they pay, is unknown to me. However, this forum can disappear at their discretion. It is their sub-forum. That is why you don't see sub-forums for companies like Condor, Gerber, etc.

Is that really what you read into my post?

Very interesting.

Well let me read your OP again.

Well, my 1000th post came and went without event. I know it is customary for folks to run a contest to show their appreciation for the forum as well as for others. I'm sorry, but I simply don't have the means to run any type of give-a-way.

I like to think that I've been a part of this forum for a while. I may not be the most active participant at times. I don't have any blade modifications named after me, although I'm working on it. I don't make custom sheaths. I haven't made it to any gatherings. Still, I like to think that I am a member of this community, and therefore have an interest in the way it is run and how it continues to grow.

With that said, I've been noticing a really disheartening trend lately. A lot of people seem to be forgetting that this is a hosted forum by KA-BAR and Becker. In other words, this isn't your house. If I ever have the pleasure of having any of you over at my house, I would frankly find it rude if when you came in, you found it necessary to criticize my home, my offerings, or my family.

Lately, however, as I drop into KA-BAR's home to chit-chat, I'm noticing a large amount of criticism and negativity focused towards them. Everything from really, truly, insulting comments about sheaths, handle slabs, QC, warranty wording, etc. You don't like it? Fine. Change it. Mod it. Buy an alternative. We'd love to see them, but go easy on it. Some of the comments are just down right mean spirited towards a company and people, human beings, who provide us with fantastic products, amazing customer service, contests with free, expensive swag, direct answers from senior employees and designers, etc. For crying out loud, show some respect. As customers, we keep KA-BAR running. No doubt about that. However, I think KA-BAR has been doing a pretty good job at not biting the hand that feeds them. Let's try and reciprocate.

Sure, this is the internet. Free speech. Right to an opinion. Blah, blah, blah. I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that while we are all paying customers, and customers have the right to satisfaction, keep in mind that some things might be best taken up with KA-BAR directly. Somethings need not be said, especially in their own home. You have a grievance? Call KA-BAR. 800-282-0130. PM Toooj or Ethan. But please, whatever you do, have some manners.

Thank you, Moosez45, Bladite, Guyon, Ethan and Paul. Thank you for everything. Keep up the good work.

Maybe when I hit 2000 I'll be able to give back more to this forum than just my big mouth.

Yeah that exactly what I read in your post.

If I didn't know better, I would suspect you got a Ka-Bar soap box as a prize for those 1000 posts.

Big Mike

I have a little something called respect and manners. The apparent lack of such qualities based on such posts seem to require that I explain my post. Gladly. The point to me referencing the 1000 posts was in reference to the trend among many people here to host some kind of contest or giveaway in an effort to show their appreciation to the forum. Being that I am unable to host any type of contest, nor give anything away, I decided to show my appreciation and gratitude to this forum by letting the folks who run it, and the members who appreciate it, know that their efforts are not taken for granted, and that I implore other members to have this same sense of respect and gratitude.

The members who are making themselves painfully noticed, seem to take delight in pissing wherever they want without any regard to others. If that is their wont to do, please, by all means, keep it up. It's obviously impossible to stop them. However, just know that they are not appreciated for it. There is a fine line between honesty and rudeness. Between constructive criticism and criticism.

Ok, its a good discussion so far, and I like it.

Lets keep it civil and not start personal attacks of any sort. We haven't had any, and I would very much like to keep it that way, please.

Thank you, fellas.

Manufacturing forums are not charged, some sub forums on here are charged, but only the price of a membership upgrade, nothing heavy.

Does Kabar pay for anything here? Not in the "money on the barrel" so to speak, but last year, Kabar donated well over $2000 (current market pricing) to Bladeforums, as an incentive to upgrade your membership to Gold, and very nice slipjoint folder for the Platy's.

So, even though they don't pay to be here, they pay because they are here. And because ya'll are here.

They also like to hear the good with the bad. If you go back and check the forums, we have never stifled a complaint, or criticism on any Kabar or BKT product. Its not what we do here, and its not good to condemn folks that do.

The term fan boy is thrown around alot, and for me, it really doesn't matter. I'm a fan of BKT knives, Kabar knives, ESEE knives, Kershaw knives, and the list goes on and on. Where I draw the line, is that I can listen to someone complain about the sheaths, and completely understand, I can also understand why the sheaths are what they are, as I have an inside track to the powers that be in regards to the decisions.

Knives break, orders get delayed, sheaths will suck, but as long as we are willing to hear it, then there is nothing broken.

To me, a fan boy is someone that cannot see fault in something, regardless of the facts.

Yes, there were about 650 bent BK14's to slip through door at Kabar, and delivered to dealers, and in turn, delivered to folks.

Toooj came on here and said as much.

There were some marks on a knife under the handle, created by a process of manufacturing, once again, Kabar shows up and explains.

Good with the bad, is fine by me, but the manner in which it is presented, is what chaps my ass.

See, common courtesy is not too common, and some folks feel that being an ass, makes their claim more valid or something. And let me say this, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR

I'm generalizing the internet forums as a whole, not singling anyone out, don't read that in what I am saying.

We have a great forum, with alot of folks, some new faces, some old one's (Trade), some really smart guys/gals, and some really dumb one's (Murph).

Its diversity, and everytime I talk to Ethan about, he is so happy the forum is what it is, its kinda funny to watch.

Ya'll make this place what it is, don't let that change.

I think this wen't from a thread with some real merit to it, to a "you see my point?" thread, and is developing into a full blown argument/bash each other thread....

You're right, oXide. I blame myself for trying to bring some manners to some folks. I'll close the thread myself.

Not on my watch, it isn't.

I think its a good thread, with a good topic.

Folks just need to remember, we take the good and the bad here, and as long as its not personal attacks, it stays.

Respect and courtesy is always welcomed, but doesn't have to be there, for the point to get across.

I can keep posting in it, and ya'll can't.

Neener neener neeeeener!!!

Phbbbbbbbbt!!! (internet raspberry)

:D

ah, it's closed. too bad. we were making some headway (and i was keeping out of it)...

if someone feels they still need to discuss, start a new thread. there you go.

the way i look at it, Spark and Ethan have an understanding. this is Ethan's House. ultimately, his rules, as moderated by us guys in red. sometimes the Supers get involved with certain things, but mostly, they don't; they got our back when we need, and at the Top is Spark, he pays for the computers, and network bandwidth. his Forum.

being a good guy has major benefits. aside from free steel. getting inside info. talking to the man. and more.

the KaBar side, is official KaBar. yeah, we mod there too, but Tooj posts. which is awesome. not on his "free time". OfficialKaBar does too. you know, a job. he can mod as well. respect that.

all this can go away in a heartbeat though, if it's abused (on any front).

it has happened before.

i could happen again.
