Well, as many of you already know, I'm having custom maker, Dale Reif make me my dream knife. Well, the blade is a .130 thick, 3 5/8" long piece of BG-42. Well, it came time for us to have to send it off for heat treating today, and I realized that I had no idea who would be doing the heat treating, or how the process should be properly carried out. I saw MDP's post to R.J. Martin, and I went to his website, where I saw his background with steel, particularlly with BG-42, and it caught my eye. I emailed him, and he promptly emailed me back with everything I wanted to know. I sent this info to Dale, and we weren't sure if the process would be done to my expectations, so I posted in the Shop Talk forum, asking for someone's help with heat treating my blade. R.J. emailed me, and said "Why didn't you just ask in the first place?"

Well, as you can imagine, this made me VERY happy!!!

It's people like Mr. Martin who make this industry what it is...GREAT!!! I thank you MILLIONS sir!!! Keep up the excellent work.

...and Dale, I thank you for making all this possible, and for letting me be so closely involved with the whole process. It definately is a wonderful experience, that I think every knife nut should have the opportunity to experience at some point in their quest to find the ultimate knife.

R.J. is definately the man of the day!!! He summed it all up when he said, "Let's get this done right!"

Thanks you guys, you've made this dream of mine come true.

Now, Adam...do you plan on keeping this knife for more than two weeks? There are those of us who remember your orgasmic delight when you had your decorated Sebenza, and then just threw it to the wind like something you picked up from those dorks that sell knives on HSN at 3am. Jackyl is the only guy that can have 29 responses to a knife-for-sale post and still not sell the knife

Hahaha...that's me alright, but as you guys HOPEFULLY notice, is that I've been staying out of the Knife For Sale / Trade forum. Reason being, I have decided that all my custom folders from here on out, will be personally built for me or modified to my liking to make them more personalized. I only plan on trading high end production knives knives from here on out. Of course I'm going to trade off Microtech's, Benchmade's, and Spyderco's, or even Chris Reeve's, or William Henry's...why? Not because they are bad knives, but because they don't have anything to offer me that can't be found in a heart beat here at BladeForums, or on some high end dealer's site for anywhere from $100 to $500. Something that ANYONE can buy with the money, and the will to do so. Their's just something about the idea that the knife was made for me, step by step, to my specs. that really keeps me interested. I KNOW that I will NEVER sell, OR trade off my Drew Gleason heavily modified Benchmade 850, while I wouldn't blink at trading off a Sebenza, decorated or not. (That's why my D.G. 850 has my initals etched in gold on the clip.)

Thanks again Allen. See, these guys have so much to offer, I can't help but take advantage of their gift...one which I don't possess...on a more personal level. It's a wonderful experience.

Jackyl,

I guess I missed the post on Allen's work on your Ontario. Could you briefly explain what was done. Thanks!

Well, it was a POS SP-14 TANTO 10 with that crapy spray paint blade coating, so Allen brought it down to bare steel, re-ground it, coated it with the Selinum (?) Oxide coating, snf sharpened it for me...he also made me an AWESOME kydex / consealex sheath for it. I was amazed, to say the least. The blade profile looks like that of a Chris Reeve fixed blade now.

...and he did it for free!
