Who has one? What brand would you recommend? I'm thinking about getting one just not to sure on which one to get. Thanks

aren't radar detectors becoming obsolete with the cops shifting towards laser? with laser you can detect it only when they are pointing it at you making it too late to slow down.

I'd get either a ...

top of the line Beltronics
top of the line Escort Passport
Valentine One

Good luck and safe driving!

I have a cordless BEL and it has saved me thousands in tickets, I can transfer it from my work truck to personal truck to my motorcycle. A friend has the Valentine and it works great but as ceriksson said they may be shifting to laser and might no be as effective. I get a lot of false alarms from stop lights and automatic store door openers but what that does is keep me in check from speeding because it's constantly beeping and so it makes me let up on the gas.

The V1 can detect laser too. There was this stuff called Veil which could be painted onto license plates or other reflective parts of the car. This means that it will take the cops longer to get a lock on your car, giving your detector and you more time to respond.

Get the Passport Escort. I have the 8500 and it is GREAT! If you want an upgrade the 9500i would be the way to go. That will be the next one I get. GOOD LUCK! Kevin

I have a cheap Walmart Cobra-$40---that seems to do a good job of finding radar----coming home one night it did pick up a laser from about a mile off---good thing I was doing the limit---I was the only car on the road and he would have had me if I was speeding.

I swear by the Valentine 1. The directional arrows are great to have. You can also buy remote (wired) displays so the unit can stay relatively hidden.

i drive a vette so i need a good one, i have tried bel, they were ok, escort, ok, but the valentine 1 is the bomb, with the directional meters, and # of signal indicators, its a LOT better than anything else i have tried, mine works really good on X, K &Ka, ok on laser, but not many cops use laser in TX, maybe some DPS, but am very happy with my V-1, i have 2 of them lol, i drive pretty aggressively and havent gotten a ticket in 4 or 5 yrs (knock on wood), which my girlfriend absolutely cannot believe lol i scare the heck outta her sometimes when i'm in ther vette. FWIW the last ticket i got they paced me lol so watch your '6'.

though the V-1's are expensive ($500 IIRC) they have saved me 10X that easily, if ya are gonna spend some $$ and want the very best get the V-1, if not just get a $75 cobra, they are ok, have a lot more falses than a V-1, but are pretty sensitive.

i wouldnt waiste $$ on a bel, whistler or escort myself, they arent worth it imho if ya are gonna spend +$100 get the V-1..

im gonna be selling a few knives so i can get the valentine 1. Thanks for the info

i guarantee ya its the best, ya cant beat the V1.

another con with the others is they have a plastic case, my vette rides rough and the thing is always falling off, i have cracked the case on a $300 bel and a $200 whistler, the V1 case is titanium it wont crack lol. also V1 offers and upgrade service for a nominal fee.

sounds like i work for them lol, they do have a good product though.

i bet ya like it.............

The spray crap is BS; don't bother with it.

As far as lasers, yes more cops are using them, but it tends to be highway patrols more with a lot of small towns not having a single gun (they're expensive). Also, they can't work through glass or while moving. So, the cop has to be sitting in his car stationary, and have the window down (so obviously they're not gonna be used as much in winter lol).

Valentine is my brand. A great little machine.

what about those plastic covers you put on your front plate and it takes the laser longer to lock on. good? bad?
