hey folks...

winter is upon us... though a lot of you guys get snow, lots of it, we get lots of rain...:o it's been raining here off and on for the past 3 days now...

i finished this sheath the day before yesterday, while it was pouring down rain... the misses was busy and needed me out of her hair, my little one was sick and my older son wasn't home... so off to the garage i went to work...:)

i made this one for a friend named Ron... he's an awesome primitive archer/bowyer... he didn't make the knife.. i forgot who he said made it... the knife is really, really nice... i'm bummed i have to send it back to him...:o i've had it for a few months now and have had a great time playing with it... it's got a 7 in. wicked sharp, hand forged blade... made of 5160 i believe.. the finger gaurd is made from water buffalo horn and the handle is a nice curved section of deer antler...
anyhow.. i tried to make the sheath a little more rustic looking, to match the knife... i think they go together quite well... there's a few blems on it, but nothing too bad..what do you all think??

i hope you folks have a Merry Christmas and safe New Years..:)

Sweet work Bro. Hopefully after the holidays I'll have ya make one or 2 for me. My Enzo is tired of being naked. I've tried twice, but my attempts are pretty fubared. :)

BTW, winter here is always rainy, cold , dreary and muddy til about May. But not cold like a lot of folks here seem to be getting. I really miss the mountains in winter.

Mike, that is awesome work, dude. I like that you doubled the welt at the handle to give it more room and help keep the shape after wetforming.... nice.

Rick

Nice work Mike, a sheath to be proud of for sure. Is that edge kote on the edges? Very cool knife as well!

many thanks for all the comments folks.. this one was a lot of fun to make..:)

rick-- thanks for noticing the extra welt.. i forgot to take some side view pics and it's kind of hard to notice... i don't think it woud have been possible to do a deep pouch style sheath otherwise...

christian-- that is indeed brown edge kote... i don't always use it... but i felt like it went well with this sheath...:o

Some quality work on that sheath, it's admirable!Real craftsmanship.

Can't say I share your enthusiasm for those stag scales though.....

Wow. Very nice. Looks like Ron is going to have a Merry Christmas ;). He gets his knife back and an awesome sheath.

Outstanding work, Mike! It looks to me like it "fits" with knife and style just right! Merry Christmas!

Very nice Mike!
You are really developing your own style.

I recognize that blade. It is cast dendritic D2 or 440C. It is cast off the blade hawkeye carried in last of the Mohican's. Made by a guy just north of me that I met at a knife show, here a couple years ago. I don't remember his name. The good news is, I have one of those blades that I trades him for and have never put a handle on it. Let me know if ya wanna trade me out of it...;)
be safe... Ted

Excellent job Mike! I like the color you chose , and those edges looks smooth!
