I did a search, but couldn't find a thread about this knife...and I want to talk about it dang it!

Who has one? Who wants one? Who actually carries one and how? Has anyone abused one? Broken one? Used one to do somethng amazing? Modified one?

Mine showed up today. I haven't used it yet except to open a very small envelope...it did well. :D The wave feature works well off the back pocket of my blue jeans, and the knife length carries well there (at least so far). I can also open it one-handed with the thumb stud (i have big hands, but not circus freak big), and I can flip it open with a good flick of the wrist.

I need to play with it more, but so far I'm impressed. It locks up tight and feels substantial in my hand. I have a hard time thinking of knives as defensive weapons, but I think this may fit that role well, given the reach and speed of deployment. It also seems like a decent outdoors/survival knife, given some of the things it did/survived in the videos on Youtube.

It isn't a fixed blade, but it may be close, and I can conceal it legally where I live, whereas a fixed blade must be openly displayed.

I broke one chopping woody green vegetation, not hardwood and not what would even be considered softwood. I think it may have been a defect in the stock material but I don't know, and the warranty is only for year so I wasn't able to send it back to find out. Despite the break my knife had excellent f&f for its price and performed well hacking away at cactus and weeds, pocket machete basically. Very sharp out of the box and overall impressive for a folder. I think its an excellent knife, though for me its durability is in question, I'm a freak of nature though so that is to be considered. I did contemplate replacing it but moved on to quality fixed blades instead as they are far more suitable for hard tasks when you don't always have the preferred tool for the job.

I have the Rajah 2, as well as the (smaller) Rajah 3...Very well-made folders, but the Rajah 2 is just too darn big for an EDC folder.:).

You couldn't find a thread with this knife? That search function must be horrible. I think an interesting thing to note is that Allcaps321's rajah 2 broke in the actual blade and not the lock.It has a beast of a lock. I think it was probably a defect because even though aus 8 isn't the best steel it's not fragile.

That is an expensive knife to use for chores. What failed? The lock or the blade itself?

I used to own several Vaquero Grandes. GREAT knives from the same company for a fraction of the price. I used mine for clearing brush as well. It also was big enough to slice bread.

I found threads with this knife mentioned, but not threads about this knife specifically.

The blade broke, I guess it might be kinda of expensive for some, but you can get them for 90 bucks, and even for me that is pretty affordable. So yeah I didn't feel guilty using it for chores. Just a tad displeased when it broke. Nternal is right about the lock being excellent, after all the use it got it was free of any blade play and locked up very tight with a smooth action. I might replace it some time down the road in case its no longer offered at some point in the future.

I probably wouldn't use a Rajah I or an espada for chores, but the $90 Rajah II I wouldn't feel bad about putting to work.

I would be upset if it broke right away, but if it broke after years of heavy use I would think it had served its time.

I think I had it confused with the Espada. Sounds like a bad heat treat, which is a manufacturer defect. They SHOULD replace it, even though it is past the year warrantee, but even if it was within the year I doubt that they would. In the past I sent back damaged knives to several major companies, all of whom sent them back with a note telling me it was my fault the knife was broken. In one case, Spyderco customer service sent a knife back in worse condition than it was sent in telling me to go to hell, and that was AFTER I'd offered to pay for repairs. I have never had a good experience sending any knife back to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. It is difficult enough to get refunded for knives lost in the mail.

I had a knife maker who owns a medium sized high end production company tell me that marketing, advertising, and warranties were meaningless and you couldn't hold a company to any expectations based on them. He was a bit of a dick about it, and to be honest I see what he said as being a rather unethical practice.

I own one - but more for the amusement of it than to edc.

I have chopped stuff around the yard with it - and of course I carry it when I see friends as the WOW factor is just too good to turn down.

Surprisingly it's not too painful to edc in pocket - just wouldn't want to do it all the time.

My RJ 2 is one of my favorite stainless steel folders. It is also the sharpest "out of the box" knife I ever purchased. I was so excited when I first got it that I accidently opened it too close to my stomach. I was like whoa! that was close and a few seconds later, the point of contact started itching, then burning, then bleeding. I now handle this big boy with alot more respect. Hearing that it broke under what I consider light duty is a bummer though. The worst part about breaking one of these is how hard it would be to get a replacement with the same folding kukri shape combined with tri-ad lock. I wished they made these out of some steel better suited for repeated impacts.

Well...damn...it...

I was pracficing drawing this thing from business slacks this morning with my weak hand and I wasn't paying attention to what was around me. I drew, the blade locked open, and i smacked it on the pommel of another knife that was sitting on a shelf behind me. Now I have a brand new Rajah with a ding on the edge. :grumpy:

On the bright side, now that it isn't a pristine blade anymore I don't feel bad about using it. I murdered a shrubbery today when I got home.

The ding is small and will disappear eventually as I sharpen the blade. If I actually use the knife and therefore sharpen it regularly, the ding should be gone well within a year. Still....damn.

Are you impressed with it's strength and capability?

Lol.

It certainly doesn't cut through 420HC (that's what the knife I accidently wacked with it was made out of), but it does a good job opening letters and cutting shrubs.

Honestly, I probably wacked it pretty hard. I guess I'm lucky the damage was so minimal.

From what I understand the Triad lock is basically a fortress. As other people have said, the blade will break before the lock will. Best of luck with your new knife.
