As we have wonderful threads about stag and bone and "Wooden Wednesday," etc., I think we need a dedicated thread for one of my favorite materials, ram horn. From smooth interior to gnarly, barky exterior, and from folders to fixed blades, show 'em here.

What an amazing selection Jeff.
I can see why it's your favourite, there's an incredible variety of textures and colours you can have with ram's horn.
Here's my only one...

Seeing that Scagel in another thread is what prompted me to start this one. I hope a lot more pile on!

Robert Klaas MIC .couldn't go past it for 13 bux.
I definitely want some on a forum knife.

Nice knives, guys! The cool thing about ram horn is that unlike stag, the slightly translucent interior is interesting too. With stag you want as much of the exterior bark as possible with little to no pith showing. I personally think the ram horn looks best with a bit of a mix between the two.

I have been fighting the urge to get a Dog's Head version of the Half Moon made by CSC. This thread is definitely not helping. Ram horn and 14-4CrMo? Resistance...................is...................futile.:D

Excellent Thread idea Jeff, One day I will choose the Ram Horn that's sings out to me, I have always thought Rams Horn was stunning, as what planted the seed was our SUPER GREAT LEGEND Mr, Ed Fowler the way he described the material...I have always known that I will own one - one day...
And I will.
I might just start keeping a good eye out now - so I don't know whether to thank you for starting this or to curse you...
no my friend......I thank you

Yes, Duncan, there is a little "Enabler" in all of us, you included, my friend! ;)

Thanks, guys!

I hadn't paid much attention to this material until seeing Sturzi's pictures.

I tend to gravitate towards the more "uniform," but his knife's handle has me mesmerized.

I love the juxtaposition (if not outright collision) of textures-- and translucence, too!

I thought I'd bring this thread back to the light with a couple new pics. PLEASE PILE ON with your own pics.

Exciting idea for a thread Jeff! It's FAB stuff and I must say that the GEC Stockman you show carry off the laurels, astounding!

Fact is I don't have enough of this material but it's hard to find, I think there was an interior Ram's Horn Conductor that keeps provoking me, but it could be delusions....

Here's a Fontenille Pataud Laguiole lockback that has two very different faces and I like both of them

I've got an Ontario RAT fixed in D2 but I don't know if it qualifies as Traditional, some good bark on it though.

Thanks, Will

Great stuff, Trand, the 48s all seem to have really nice striations throughout the material, even though it is smooth on the exterior.
