Rally 'Round the Ram Horn!

Grew up with ram's horn on knives (and sheep cheese, meat and so on...) so let me give this thread a touch of my homeland:

Here's a couple of 62's that I've got in Smooth Ram's Horn. The translucent quality and color really make this an awesome/unique material. The morning sunlight made the color in these 2 go from a deep butterscotch to more of an orange tone. I would love to see more runs in Ram's Horn, very cool stuff!

Love that translucent ram's horn.

I don't have any sheep cheese, but I may as well toss my horn handle resolza into the thread, along with some nice Havarti and Jarlsburg.

Ohhh! That TDJ Ram is to die for! My only ram horn unfortunately is a KaBar Trapper which I'm crazy about!

My one and only for now. Waiting on a CSC stockman to come.

Our comrade Woodrow F Call will recognise this one.:)
Just gazing through the thread makes think what a wondrous and variable material rams horn really is.

Jeff Many thanks, it's an odd knife but great in the hand feel - a vital aspect I think! The D2 is very keen.

Paul Mason Ram's Horn looks superb on your knife, the contours of the horn make an excellent contrast with the curve of the handle. What's it like to work with? I could imagine thick pieces are quite a challenge?

Regards, Will

Hi Will

Thanks for the compliments, very kind of you.
Rams horn can be a problem if you get hot whilst sanding it to the right thickness. I grind a bit, then put it on my steel surface plate to take any heat out, grind the other scale and keep repeating the process. Dont rush is always the answer, like most things.
I then leave them overnight held together with elastic bands in case they have warped a little. Oh and it stinks a bit!!

Cheers

Paul
