Rambo’s “Real” knife

I think he’d of had a Randall if First Blood was real.

Stallone wanted a Randall, he wanted something like a Randall Bowie mixed with one of their survival knives. He went down to Florida to see them, and Randall turned them down. The scuttlebutt is Stallone wanted to be moved to the front of the line, and comp'd a couple of dozen knives for use in the film, and that rubbed the Randalls wrong. They were already famous, and could turn down the work.

Next he went to Bill Moran, thinking to use an ST-23 fighter. Moran turned him down, but Stallone did buy some personal knives from him for his collection, including a ST-23. Moran also told Stallone to check out Jimmy Lile.

The knife issued to graduates of the Jungle training course in Vietnam was the Jet Pilots Survival knife. This is probably what Rambo should have carried. The Randall model 18 was originally designed for a helicopter pilot who wanted something that could help him escape from a downed aircraft, that also had a compartment to carry medications (speed and pain killers) to help the crew avoid capture; none of which applied to Rambo's MO.

If Rambo were on active duty today, what do you think his knife would be?

IIRC Original movie hit theaters in 1982? Not a whole lot of production blades of that nature available then....and the custom/ commision knife world was way different than today...at least in my opinion
