I have the united cutlery First Blood Lile knife and I think it’s great. It feels great in my hand and looks almost exactly like the one in the movie.
Though I do notice that in the movie the sheath has a sharpening stone holder attached and the United Cutlery does not. I also noticed in the film that the knife has a leather tie on the handle and not on the sheath.

I’m sure I could sharpen a stick, kill a wild boar...etc with this knofe.

What is it that you people want to do with these that they get bad reviews? What kind of punishment are you putting them through?

I just won a new Rambo 3 on EBay and can’t wait to get it.

I understand that they are replicas, but I am really interested in what the bad reviewers’ knives are being put through?

Are you trying to cut cans? LOL....

Oh boy...

It's like asking, "What's wrong with this Yugo, it goes forward and backward and even turns!" I'm sure it does...

Your rambo knife blade is made with 420J2, the crappiest, cheapest steel you can make a knife from. Try putting a razor edge on it...if you succeed, go cut anything and see how long it holds that edge...I guarantee your average kitchen knife will get sharper and stay sharper longer.

I don't think they were meant to be used...better for display. I wouldn't bet my life on those knives - those UC Rambo's probably aren't going to excel at anything other than maybe stabbing someone...

No, I may not cut cans on a regular basis, but it's nice to know my knives can handle the task EASILY if ever called upon to do that.

Welcome to the forums. Read a lot and learn more about knives.

I'm a big fan of the movie, and the knife you have is meant to be a piece of movie memorabilia. I would not personally use the knife for anything at all, just display it and admire it as it was meant to be. I have a Conan The Barbarian Atlantean sword that is pretty exacting to the movie. Does it mean I'm gonna take it out and cut stuff with it? No. I enjoy it as a conversation piece, and piece of movie memorabilia. It's the closest I'm going to get to the real deal. (which is unattainable). The Rambo replica is the closest alot of folks are going to get to the original. Nothin wrong with that.

The above poster, although pretty abrasive in his reasonings for this to be a knife not meant to be used, is right. The steel is an inferior quality that would not hold up to moderate use, much less any heavy use. (heavy use meaning batoning the knife through a log with another piece of wood, cutting down a sapling, cutting through heavy bones, cutting thick rope etc.)

The original Rambo pieces made by Jimmy Lile will go through hell and back as far as hard use. Expect to pay an arm and a leg for one.

Buy your Rambo knives if you like the styling. Especially if you're a big fan of the movie. Admire them, and display them as they were meant to be.

If you want a big, rough hard using knife, many can be had for a decent price. Look into Ontario's stuff. I like the big Beckers and Ka-Bar's as well.

United Cutlery is known for crappy knives, period. I also feel that the "Rambo" knives are for display purposes only. I pretty much agree with Raining, although that was a little harsh; I agree with what he was trying to say.

Thanks all,

so whats the closest to the First Blood Lile? and then same for the Rambo 3?

I bought the Rambo II knife in the box @ a pawn shop for $25. It is just to look at, and show to my other knife friends, who also know it is just to look at.

Unless you found another custom maker willing and able to make you a First Blood style knife, you have either the United Cutlery version, or a real deal Lile.

The Rambo 3 is the same. The real Gil Hibben knife is about twice the size of the replica.

I've seen on the forums where Ray Laconico (sp) has made a few very nice hollow handled survival knives reminiscent of the Lile knife. May want to find him here, and shoot him an email.

Randall knives makes a super nice hollow handled survival knife, but those are expensive and hard to come by.

I have an original Jimmy Lile Mission knife. I paid more for it than my car so even though it is tough and made from 440c stainless it is still just for looks. Check out www.martinknives.com they make a First Blood replica that is tough, usable and affordable.

Is this the hollow handled one? If it is the weak link is where the handle joins the blade. There are lots of people who have nice scars from where a United Cutlery blade has failed at the wrong time.

IMHO United Cutlery knives are for display only

speaking of big movie knives, what about the ones from crocidile dundee (1 and 2, 3 sucked) i also love his upsidedown, behind back carry. i wouldnt mind getting one just for looking and playing with. no real cuttin.

Hey Guys...
One thing I don't understand is why so many people spend good hard earned money on Stampings ??

Yaa it's maybe nice to have a replica from a movie, like the Rambo knives or Lord of the Rings stuff...

However,, why spend good money on something that you can't use..?

That money could be spent on a knife that is actually useful...

We all have things we spend our money on to just look at..I just can't see it in a knife...

United Cutlery IS known for making junk. It is REALLY that plain and simple. And I agree with what Normark said.

Get a nice useable blade then get a nice knife stand. Bam! Instant working blade art.

I just tore through a brand new leather sheath with the point of the blade. It must have got snagged when I was putting the blade back into it.
Any recommendations on repairing it?

you can try a shoe repair shop, but if it was damaged by simply inserting the knife, it isnt the best quality to begin with.

as for a hollow handled user knife, look in to the chris reeve one peice series. unbeatable in that regard.

Thanks Mor,

I was thinking shoe repair.
I was also thinking crazy glue, since the slice through the thick leather is angled in such a way that I can press it together.
I know it’s touted as a wall hanger on this site but the knife is a Hibben Rambo III.
When I put the blade into the sheath for the first time, the very very sharp tip got caught on the inner wall (close to the bottom).
I thought it just needed to be broken in being the 1st time and all, so I forced it. Then noticed the top half inch of the blade poking out the side of the sheath.
I wonder if I can get a new sheath?

Also is there anyone here that makes quality knife like that? it really is nice.

you can get any number of quality knives, but they will not be exactly like the Rambo III (unless you buy a real Hibben) They will cost much more as well, but you will have a dependable tool, vs a shiny novelty.
