randall made or fehrman

I'm a big fan of Randall knives, and own 36 of them. But it's not my job to be a salesman, and I call it like I see it. Their knives are easily as good as anything else out there on the market, but if great customer service is important to you, Randalls are probably not for you.

For what it's worth, once they get to know you, the level of customer service does improve fairly dramatically.

thanks i believe i'll go with the fehrman last chance. Good steel, good design, good customer service. i like the QC and the handle better than busse. both solid companies and knives, a win either way. I just like the look of the qc and handle.

One thing on the Fehrman's handles: if you have big hands, the shape might not suit you well especially when you're out for serious choppings.

Busse backs their products no matter what. They are easily accessible and take care of military who are serving.

I'D go Busse if cost is no object. Swamp Rats are damn tough to break, but the infi in a busse will definitely hold an edge longer. (No experience with Ferman.)

Really? How come?

I'd say Busse on this one. No nonsense knives.

On a side note about Randall's warranty, you have to break the knife first. I mean if you're expecting the knife to break that's one thing, but if memory serves me right, Randalls are forged and pretty tough to break. Normal warranty service doesn't cover abuse. I would be hard pressed to have to send a Randall in for warranty service.

It's true - you've got to abuse a Randall pretty darn badly before you even have to start thinking about sending it back. They're really tough knives.

Actually, if you're active duty, coming up with a Randall just got a whole lot easier. Call the shop and order one of the full-tang knives and they'll fast-track the order for you. You'll have your knife in 6-8 weeks. No joke.

Now that is a fantastic (and worthy) deal.:)

Kudos, many of them, to the Randall company.

That's one of the reasons why the wait is so long for the rest of us. But I'd say they've definitely got their priorities straight. :)

The contours of the handle with that notch for your index finger is not big enough for large hands, I think. I mean it fits my small/medium hands perfectly, and I am not that big you know (1.74 metre and 75 kg).

Fehrman for me! I love their blades and they are great people to deal with. I cannot say enought good things about how good their knives are.

Good choice! I have several Fehrmans (and Busses), and really like their quality. Their steel is very tough and holds a great edge. The handles are some of the most ergonomic I've ever held.

I would buy the Fehrman Knife hands down if my life was on the line. I have had issues and I am not the only one with the handles loosening up on the Busse Knives by people who use them really hard and abuse them. Your going to be doing that. Buy the Fehrman Knife and you will be able to bet your life on it. I have owned dozens of Busse Knives and three Fehrmans, The Fehrmans win hands down never mind the much better fit and finish.

I own several Busses, and have used them all. I also spend some time in the Busse forum, every day. I have yet to have any handles loosen up, and I can't recall ever seeing any posts to that effect in the forum, either. I have zero doubt that I can stake my life on any one of my Busses. Your implication that you can't trust a Busse, in my experience, is way off base. Can you provide a link to some complaints about this?

I Confirm this, and you can see my youtube videos if you like..

I have a size 10 hand.. and the Pommel digs into my pinky when you hit stuff hard.. the notch digs into my fingers..

When choking in the choil, the design is simply amazing.. the normal grip just feels a little too small, and the handle too fat.

I have sent my Last Chance off to Ranger knives and Im having the handle modified and thinned down with the removal of the bad bits.. After that, I expect the knife to be the best performer in the size/weight class I own..

I cant say anything bad at all about my Busses.. I Love them.. But the geometry of the big boys is not to compare for actual slicing on my fehrman.. This is a design thing.. My SUS Scrofa is a mean cutting knife :D

I've heard almost nothing but great things about Ferhman knives...they look excellent to me.

Once I did hear someone say something along the lines of "I can make a knife of the same quality of a Ferhman for ten times less in two hours from start to finish."

Thats the only bad thing I ever heard about them.

the only time i've heard of the tube fasteners of a busse coming loose is when noss wailed at it while in a vice with a 3# mini sledge hammer. multiple times, and after prior abuse no one will ever do to it in a real world situation.

then jerry busse replaced it free under warrunty!

op- i'm sure both randall and fehrmans will serve you well. i'd just buy both!:D
