randall made or fehrman

the only time i've heard of the tube fasteners of a busse coming loose is when noss wailed at it while in a vice with a 3# mini sledge hammer. multiple times, and after prior abuse no one will ever do to it in a real world situation.

then jerry busse replaced it free under warrunty!

op- i'm sure both randall and fehrmans will serve you well. i'd just buy both!:D

Get the one you like, its the one you will use :D if you can afford it.. get all the ones you like.

I've heard almost nothing but great things about Ferhman knives...they look excellent to me.

Once I did hear someone say something along the lines of "I can make a knife of the same quality of a Ferhman for ten times less in two hours from start to finish."

Thats the only bad thing I ever heard about them.

That was Glock&Surefire.

"I love my Fherman knives, but can no longer justify buying anymore knives. When I can make them of the same quality for, well ten times less.
If the materials are 25.00 selling price is 250.00-275.00 amazing what a CNC and lathe can do, two hours from start to finish."

He is a funny guy!

I have never owned or used a Randall so I can’t comment on that brand.
I do own a Fehrman LC and like it very much.
Customer service has been excellent. The craftsmanship is better than most of the other high end knives I own.

Don’t forget your seatbelt cutter when you go to the sandbox. This item is more likely to save your life than any knife you carry, regardless of brand.

Thank you for serving your country and helping to protect us from Muslim terrorists.

LOL,this thread is over 2 years old.Hopefully the OP is back home safe and sound.

Now, if you want a blade that any afghani will instantly hate and fear....
Put a Khukuri on your belt or pack.
I just happen to know where you can get one that you can bet your life on with great customer service and it won't cost you an arm, leg or your first born child. :)

But, if i had to choose between the two you listed I'd go with the Randall, not just because they are nice, but because of their impeccable history with the military.

In spite of this thread being old and the OP obviously not needing this info, I am posting my thoughts for others that may find this thread doing a search.

If you REALLY need a hard use knife because you are forward deployed or in a remote location, the greatest warrenty is pretty useless if a knife is your only tool, and you need to extricate yourself from a downed aircraft, disabled Humvee, MRAPP, etc. Get a tool that is highly unlikely to fail and has published test data to prove it. The warrenties are great if you are a weekend warrior and can send your knife in from a local address and have a replacement in a week. If you need your warrenty in a true war zone, sending it back from an FPO address will take weeks as will getting it back to the same. The warrenty won't help if you need your knife and it fails.

Second, every unit is different as are different branches of the service, some may not allow FB carry. It is also true that in some units your fellow soldiers will give you grief for carrying such a knife or your $300+ knife may end up missing.

How do you know this?

How many Afghanis have you interacted with while having a Kukri on your belt or pack?

Because i happen to have known more than a couple vets, some from my own family. One current military family member being combat med with a tour each in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Because i happen to know more than a few khukuri ended up in the hands of soldiers, gratis from H.I. and very generous forumites. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...an-Imports-Link-Library?p=8247200#post8247200
Because, Bad as the Terrorists want to make themselves out to be, it is a known fact that they don't like to mess with Gurkhas.

Anybody who is deploying soon may want to get a Randall simply because you can get on the fast track. Civilians like me have to wait 4+ years or pay hefty premiums.

But I wouldn't take the Randall to Kerplakistan, nor a Fehrman, nor a Busse. I've read time and time again how expensive knives get stolen. Sad but true, the military has some bad apples. Take a Becker or ESEE. If they vanish you won't be out hundreds of bucks, and they'll hold up to hard use just fine. Just sayin.
