Oof. That was an ugly game to watch.
Agreed.
GB's D combined w/penalties, dropped passes and stupid plays (mainly by Garrapolo) shut SF's O down for 3 quarters but, after GB's 1st scoring drive SF's D showed up and neutralized GB's O but then SF's D blocked a FG "saving" 3 points, blocked a punt "scoring" 7 points and, after the TD, SF's D forced GB to turn over the ball on downs and THEN SF's O was just good enough to move the ball w/FG range to win the game.
An awful game to watch from both ends BUT credit to SF's D & Special Teams for winning the game for the team.
Now on to LA to beat the Rams "again" in order to get to the SB.
SF & the Rams have seen each other enough this year to know what to look for. So, it'll be interesting to see what they each do to try to neutralize the other and who will be more successful in implementing their plan.
Given how the TB game when for Brady & the Bucs, I'd expect SF to go w/the ground game wc was successful in the 1st match up this year but not so successful in the 2nd. The question is whether Shanahan can come up w/enough tweaks to avoid unnecessary and expected use of the pass.
Garoppolo is just too inconsistent. Sometimes he shows streaks of brillance but then he does really stupid rookie sh*t (like throwing long into the flat w/coverage) that makes him vulnerable to the INT. So, as in the past, SF is better off NOT relying on Garoppolo's arm unless need be.
Fortunately, the Rams have a habit of making mistakes late in the game. Their mistakes enabled SF to win the 2nd game vs them this year and almost lost them the gave vs TB today. Hopefully, that trend will continue.
We'll see . . .
