Random Thought Thread

I was just looking at our youtube stats. Apparently, we've had 16,600 "impressions" in the last 28 days. I don't know what that means. And 105.3 hours viewed in a 28 day period (is that a lot, I don't know?) 14 hours of which was an old video about Elmax that I had forgotten about (I don't even it use anymore).

My best performing video as measured by % people watching it to the end is a video about balancing a disk. I forgot it was there.

Looking at our youtube stats, we're 100% male. Of the thousands of viewers, they're all male. Not 99.9% but 100%. All of them. Not even one female. I don't know what to make of this.

I often forget that we have a youtube channel. I use it to put videos here from time to time and those videos are up and searchable and apparently people watch them which blows me mind a little bit. I created it for Blade Forums but the vast majority of the views are from outside BF. The internet is a strange thing isn't it?

Hey Nathan,

Maybe you just need to offer some pink G10 scales to draw the ladies in. It’s amazing how that option suddenly creates interest for them. Plus the guys can justify buying another knife as a gift for their sweetheart to draw them into the fold.

Phil

This forum is expanding quickly, Nathan. I know at least of one guy who bought a UF2 last week, only after watching a video of yours .... Those videos are great collateral.

Not sure what to say about the male youtube viewership. Note that my wife knows who you are, and does like one of our DEK1s. Now, asking her to go on youtube and see you trying to destroy it would be a stretch :)

How about posting a video of Jo the Machinist Jo the Machinist with the dogs, running the shop ? :D

In other news, I thought we were done with snow for this year. Not yet, obviously.

Then again, locals tell me it sometimes snows in July :)

Honestly, thats how I heard about you for the first time. Its also what brought me to blade forums.

...so....

.... you're saying that if I put more than a 0.001% effort into social media like YouTube it might be good for our brand?

Huh

Makes sense now that I say it out loud.

I think I'm having an insight into why we make the best knives of their kind in the world but I'm still poor....

Hummmmm

We tried that with the EDC. Did not even sell 5 sets... 🤷‍♀️

I think YouTube might be doing some gender assuming. I mean, I know I have watched our videos...

Go public maybe ? :)
Yeah right!

We actually are incorporated, there are a thousand shares of aim industrial incorporated. Who wants to buy a share! Non-voting, and pays no dividends so there's no mechanism to ever actually make any money other than just selling it to some other poor shlup like a baseball card. I'm pretty sure that's how 99% of the stock market works? Idunno...

having spent so much of my career in the bike industry, watching these clueless male dominated companies try to figure out how to get more women involved in their brand, I can say with some confidence that making a pink version is not useful. There has to be sincere inclusion, and that revolves around representation.

right off the top of my head, the easiest, cheapest and most effective way to draw more female clientele to the brand is for a woman to represent the brand. Competing in Bladesports isn't a wrong way to do this, but is such a niche setting etc. that it's tough to get the word out.

one experiment to try is for Jo to be featured a youtube video. Editing goes a long way in drawing eyes and interest. Maybe a little footy from Bladesports, but mostly using knives in a more normal setting- say setting up a fire, cutting up bbq stuff, carving up some tent pegs...

if you want to engage people, you have to speak with them. There are a lot of women involved in mountain biking now, because the industry has evolved and drawn more women into it. CPK already has that, and in my opinion, just needs to leverage it.

This shows how it's done:

J/K ... I completely agree with you (Cool commercial though :) )
