13 and 16. Neither were taught to read or write cursive. Both can type 5 times faster than me. And both can type a sentence in a fraction of the time it would take me to write it down.

I can still read it just fine, but I've written in print so long now, that I can't write cursive legibly with any real speed (I'd have to write it slower than writing it in print).

I had the same experience and it is a skill that at the time I thought I would have no use for. How wrong I was.

I'm a '92 vintage. I was technically taught cursive, but I think the teachers quit trying when they realized my printing was just as bad. I can read cursive if it's very neat and tidy - which is to say I can't read 98% of cursive.

Nathan, your signature is very clear and easy for me to read. Congrats, you're a 2%-er.

Our kids are 15 and 17. They can both read it. Abigail can write it. Harrison, his print is not even legible. I think he's going to be a doctor.

Via instagram I see that Abigail applied to Macalester. that is a pretty good path to being a doctor if that is what she wants.

1978 and I hate cursive. Thanks to this bad boy I typed before I could write cursive. Unfortunately, I learned to hunt and peck and the instinct was and is so strong that in library school I ended up teaching myself how to type on a dvorak keyboard just so I could type without looking at the keys. I still use a dvorak keyboard and it annoys the hell out of my wife when she needs to use my computer.

I'm a boomer. I can easily read and write cursive ( as long as no one wants to read what I wrote. My printing is no better) I'm of the opinion that kids should be taught cursive. People will write legibly or not depending on their personality.

I think you should be able to read cursive and sign your name but writing it to me is almost like calligraphy. It's pretty but not everybody needs to know how to do it.

I took French in grade 10, and that one teacher, (Mrs. Hassanzadeh) made a meaningful and positive impact on my communication skills .... she was something else
