I'm definitely more of a top shelf guy...

Soda...not so much. (For a long, long time, anyway.) Though I used to love Mountain Dew after playing basketball for hours.
We are a basketball family sir !!! oldest is 6'11" and playing in college , youngest is 5'8" and a shooting guard in highschool with a hell of a shot!

Btw if you don't have one of these... they are fantastic

That’s how I feel about Arrogant Bastard. If someone handed me one at a BBQ I’d drink it but I wouldn’t pick it off the shelf at the packy.
I haven't had one in a long while. There are a number of such that are only for occasional (medicinal) use.

Lots of craft beers and ales these days seem to like to push the envelope just because they can. (Certainly not because they should.)

But when I get tired of ho-hum, I like to take it up a notch to get out of the boring beer doldrums. I draw the line at various exotic brews, though.
(Of course, I grew up in the era of Ballantine, Knickerbocker, Schlitz, Piels, Schaefer and such. It's been a long damned journey.)

I'm the same as you , now that I'm older I'll try as many different kinds as I can , it's kind of fun to enjoy people's different takes on things!
