that doesnt explain why we have air pressure without a container.

space is supposed to be an infinite vacuum right? Why can my lungs pull water and air up away from gravity through a straw, but we have air pressure?

Is gravity an actual law of science or widely accepted theory?

Encyclopedia brittanica says ''Newtonian THEORY of gravity''

And why, when I ride my gravitron, do I stick to the walls and not to the floor?

Ah. I dont know. I just know that I Love Jesus.

It is gravity drawing the molecules of the atmosphere near to the earth. Interestingly, the lightest components such as helium atoms and hydrogen molecules slowly escape into space. They have a speed distribution that depends on mass, and a few molecules in the high speed tail of the distribution exceed the escape velocity of the earth. Luckily O2 is too heavy to suffer significant losses.

Lowes completely sucks and I will never order anything from them again. Period.

Today, they call me, after I called to confirm delivery of an (unopened box) range scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. The gal tells me that the only ones they have are the one I returned last Friday and a floor model.

Now they say they won't have any until the end of the month, or sometime in September. I told them to cancel the order and refund. (I also told her that we'd never patronize Lowes again, for what it's worth).

Now, Home Depot, Best Buy and all the other shops are out of the model until Sept as well...so we're completely screwed as we only have the microwave and no range top and no oven. Guess we'll be picking up takeout and / or eating out a lot for a while.

I'm not a happy camper.
That's one of many reasons that having a Coleman dual burner propane stove can be handy, besides car camping.

In remote dilute regions of space there are still plenty of molecules undergoing interesting chemistry. The density is such that a molecule out there might undergo one collision per day on average. Molecules in the room around us have about 7 billion collisions per second. Some reactions have a small chance of happening per collision, so if you only get one collision per day things can take a while.

space is an INFINITE VACCUM, right?

my Lungs pull water up through a straw with INFINITELY less force than the supposed vaccum of space is pulling on everything all of the time. unless my understanding of the model is wrong.

I just fed "that doesnt explain why we have air pressure without a container." into an AI
and it gave me back this:

maybe thats is something else its called

idr it cant be but ive been so confused

i dont want to be gassed anymore

and now im ill

its

its the devil

it is the creature

in the hole

i said i would

This is quite beautiful

Yes, your understanding is wrong. You should read about high vacuum for one. Also as I posted separately space is not so empty.

Until one experiences for oneself, the rest is just words.

If a child sees a bird for the first time and somebody tells them "It's a bird" they never see a bird again, only the word.

tinfoil hat timmy tinfoil hat timmy another way to think about high vacuum. The difference in pressure between the air around us and a perfect vacuum is still only one atmosphere. So even a perfect vacuum doesn't create infinite suction.
Even Mary Jane Rotten-Crotch can't really suck a golf ball through a garden hose.

Maybe on the surface of Jupiter she could? I hear she has some powerful suction.

Not defending the company but I've bought several things from Lowes w/o any problems.

Bought a dishwasher (w/installation) at the store that's worked fine and recently bought a garbage disposal (online) that's still sitting in my foyer because the garbage disposal that was going to replace it with hasn't given up the "ghost" yet. Waiting for it to die completely before installing the new one.

FWIW, I find HD less reliable and convenient to shop at than Lowes but I they're both "big box" companies and I always have my "fingers crossed" when dealing w/either of them.

I liken this 'belief' in a flat earth to religion, to me it's the same kind of thing. Which is one of the reasons why no amount of evidence or thoughtful argument will change the believer's mind. The bias toward maintaining belief is simply too strong.

My skepticism has always been focused on belief, while others' skepticism may be focused on theory. I prefer theory because it can and should be dynamic, as new evidence presents itself. I don't have to hold true to a set of concepts and can reject obsolete theories and I find freedom in that mode of being.

As opposed to belief, which is static and unchangeable. Where integrity is based upon clinging as tightly as possible to whatever precepts a particular belief demands.

I think that's probably the oldest of humankind's dichotomies and no argument on the internet will ever change anyone's mind. Those arguments only serve to reinforce whatever confirmation bias most individuals seek out and work to maintain.

Of course, none of you should give a shit about my opinion on the subject since my opinion is as meaningless as anyone else who isn't in a position of influence. It's all just conversation.

Imo.
