Random Thought Thread

I have been scouring the auctions for a nice three axis automatic Okamoto surface grinder with spark out for the folder project. We run chevalier's here but I wanted an Okamoto for this particular process.

I finally got one at auction and I'm heading up to Dayton Ohio today to pick it up. This throws a wrench in my weekly schedule but I'm still doing the sales this Friday.

I'm trying to decide if I should bring the little truck that has air conditioning and a trailer or the big truck with room on the flatbed so that it doesn't need a trailer but does not have air conditioning.

I tried, fellas.

I'm a little bit pressed for time or I would go into some details for you. I still need to post a final response to the utility fighter with a not a rolled edge thread which means I need to load some pictures to imgur and grab some links to YouTube and properly document what I did. And I've got knives I need to sharpen. And we have this new project coming up with the SDFK which really ought to have a demonstration video for it. And I have a surprise out-of-town-trip picking up some surface grinders in Ohio today and tomorrow. It's a good question and I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I will try to answer them once I get some time to sit and compose a thoughtful response but I'm buried right now.

I hadn't thought about Cedar Point in many years. When I lived in Ann Arbor, MI going to U of M in 1970 - 1976 , we used to ride down to Cedar Point on our motorcycles. Memories of Good Times! Back then the Blue Streak was the "big" coaster there...
Of all the rollercoasters at CP, THAT one was the one I legitimately whiteknuckled, back in college

Not that the rollercoaster was scary. We were just dumb.

With those types of 'coasters (including the Magnum, Millenium Force etc.), I always prefer sitting in the last row, for the acceleration over the top of each rise/drop, that makes it feel like I'm about to be launched into low earth orbit.

Buddy and I got into those back seats, and there's a lap bar, as well as lap belts.

Having longer legs (and we both pumped iron), we could only get the bar down so far. When I went to buckle the lap belt, for some reason, we found female buckles, but couldn't find the straps with the male ends, so we said, "Eh, whatever", and tied a loose knot with the female ends. 😬

Had our hands up as we saw the lead car go over the first drop, and began accelerating over the top. Sure enough, as we went over the top the acceleration pulled us out of the seats, where we discovered why the lap belts are a good idea, as we both slid out from under the lap bar, and half out the backs of the seats with just our glutes and quads holding us in from flying out the back 😳

"AAAAAAAA!!! SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII....!!!"

Pulled ourselves back down into our seats and clung to the lap bar for dear life, dreading every rise/drop we saw coming.

Rest of our friends ranged from, "That was fun!", to "Meh, that was kind of tame...what's wrong with you two?".

Uhhh... safety restraints are there for a reason. Don't be dumb, like me/us.

I recently rode those swings on chains that go up high at this park in Connecticut called Quassy. I don't know if it's because I was too fat but instead of gently circling around after it lifted up, my swing started rocking violently back and forth and tilting forward upside down trying to dump me out. I had to wrap the chains around my hands and hang on to avoid getting thrown off. So, that park sucks.

Never did care for rollercoasters. Just thinking of it reminds me of a funny story.

Years ago, myself and a few other agent friends had a chance to take some training and do solo static line jumps out of a Cessna 152, (or similar), owned by a CIA run operation in AZ, which shared the base we were training at.

I told the guys that I wanted to go first or I wouldn't want to go out the door. One of them says, "But you're a climber, the altitude shouldn't bother you".

And I said, "Yeah, but when we get to the top, we don't jump off!"

It was definitely fun...but it sure was weird standing like a hood ornament with one foot on the tire and both hands on one of the wing struts...then jumping off and watching the plane fly away.

Damnit if I didn't have a work dinner tonight we could've met up and grabbed a pint in Dayton

If you like feeling like you’re going to die on some rides, go to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in CO. It sits on the top of a small mountain, gondolas are the only access to the park, and all the rides hang off the sides of the canyons around it.

Be sure to ride the giant swing twice, once facing each way so you can get the feeling of being thrown off into the abyss and also as if you’re going to smash into the side of the rock face at 70mph.

They also have the lazy style swings that hang a few hundred ft over the highway below so that the cars look like ants.

NOPE

We just got back from Silverwood a couple weeks ago. They have a few good coasters. My favorite was there new one called Stunt Pilot, it’s a single rail, and holy shit!

I like that one, it runs pretty smooth. The Timber Terror on the other hand........whacked my knee on steel in the first turn and sat crumpled over for the rest of the ride praying it would end
