Random Thought Thread

A lot of people probably like to think that they'd be a hero in a threatening situation, but from what I've observed with humans, is that most of us are more interested in preserving our own lives at the expense of maybe sacrificing ourselves to save someone else. It makes sense- in the face of unspeakably evil acts, like the knife attacks which started this conversation, I think most people would not know how to react, whether or not they have a weapon of some kind. And even then, in those moments where the fight or flight response kicks in, the majority of humans would be overcome by their instinct for self preservation, and not equipped to handle their weapon effectively

I'm late to the conversation and understand it has already moved on but the bit I quoted from Lorien resonated a bit with me.

To add to those thoughts - in reality, most folks do not actually know how they would react when put under very real duress. Training helps, but until one experiences a very real threat, one that imparts real physiological changes, one will never know. The mind works differently in everyone so though some would like to think that they would be the hero in their own stories, the fact remains that it's difficult to predict until one actually experiences something unfortunate.

Whelp. There it is.

I am compromised and we are all dumber now for having seen it. A CPK "Bowie".

Damn...

I didn't see the text right away and scrolled by, thinking, "Man, that looks awfully like a Bowie...." (or at least a modern concept of one)
Being otherwise distracted, it didn't sink in until a few comments down - "Oh my god, that IS a CPK Bowie!!!"

Fun Friday Sale at some point? "Internet, prepare thyself, you are about to be obliterated"

Well some good news tonight , my dad's been sedated on a vent in intensive care for 7 days, stopped in everyday to visit...

Well I get there tonight go to the nurses station as usual to ask how he's doing , I turn around and he's looking at me waving from his bed !!

Off the vent and talking to me but still on oxygen... but I'll take a positive step for him

Pretty damn good night and I'll have a beer to that!
