Random Thought Thread

So now the question becomes, what do I do with all the steel that I ordered wrong

Run a competition where everyone's a winner or make a load of medallions for us guys with open shirts and magnum facial hair and have "Collector of Carothers Knives" abbreviated on the front or " Deep Into Carothers Knives". I've got loads of ideas.

I'm confident that I could design something pretty amazeballs with that blade length in that thickness...
I hate to say it, but you probably need to be involved. I mean have you seen some of the stuff he has done lately? He made a bowie, not a very good one mind you, but he actually tried to make a bowie.

On further thought, you just need to move to NC and take over.

So, I mentioned before, I messed up when I ordered the steel plate for the Kukri project and the plate is sized for the blade in the wrong orientation with the material grain running perpendicular to the part. I can fix this by changing the part layout in the sheet, which makes the sheet size larger and gets one and a half more blades in it. (we're going to have a special: off spec Kukris, half off) <----- that's a joke.

Which isn't great but it's a fix. But it's 16.5" and my 16X32 grinder can't deck the new larger sheet size. I've been wanting the next size up auto grinder and I've found what looks like a good used grinder, but it's about $70K. Which is steep just for this project and we really don't need to run big stuff like that frequently and I already have a bunch of automatic grinders here and I'm starting to think I just screwed up and I should just bite the bullet and order more steel instead and order it right this time and then I'm wondering what the hell do I do with this incorrectly sized steel because its's really thick and what do you make with a 6" blade that's 5/16" thick and then I got thinking about daggers again....

this has been a long week

The first knives that I think of are HDFK but a Extra Heavy duty FK version of sorts ? More SDFKs of course. Maybe a Basic extra heavy duty field knife with 6” blade ?
Or even a 8” blade HDMC version , maybe with a swedge ????? Can’t help myself I just love all the FK’s and chopper knives😍😍😍

Bill has it right. A heavier 8-9" chopper, the SDFK's larger sister. Remember how these "Amazon knives" sell .... like hotcakes.

Nathan, you said yourself once: if you'd go camping you'd take an FK and a Behemoth, not an [HS]DFK (one size fits all). Well, I love it to death, but the Behemoth is a little un-wieldy. We need a partner to the FK that can be belt carried :)

Daggers are for collection not use :D

I've seen all kinds of stuff like that in videos

But it really depends on the dent , I've fixed some work a suction cup and light taps with a rubber mallet

Tool companies even have a hot glue gun dent repair kit , but nobody at work was ever able to make that do anything useful

Anyone ever use a plunger and boiling water to remove a dent from a car?🤔

Well I failed. Twice. Couldn’t get a good suction in the door.
Here is the dent. I’ve seen stuff on youtube and thought I would try.
