Ok. We’re talking self defense here. I’d take my chances with what’s available.

This was actually mentioned in a concealed carry class I took. Fwiw
I just looked it up, it is indeed a federal felony to misuse pesticides. That concealed carry class instructor is suggesting VERY bad ideas.

Pretty sure that's a crime, possibly even a felony.
That, and it's urban myth nonsense, including the folks advocating using it over pepper spray for self defense against people (and it always comes with the "make some silly claim for why you have wasp spray", with it).

Look at the most common active ingredients in various brands of wasp spray. They're all pyrethroid and pyrethrin class pesticides.

The folks who don't know anything about the subject, read a little bit in the ibterwebz and go, "Ooo... it's a fast acting nerve agent toxin, that acts instantaneously! Should use this for XXXX!"

Yeah, it's an extremely potent nerve agent, that's extremely toxic... to INSECTS (and fish, amphibians and cats).

On humans or dogs, sure, in extremely high quantities, it's potentially toxic. Like if you could get them to drink/swallow the whole container. Otherwise, it's about as effective as offering a mugger a whole lot of sweets, and hoping they die of diabetes.

And yes, it's a felony to use it in manners other than directed on the label. Some asshat is in prison, because he was doping dead animals with extremely high quantities of a pesticide (some stupid claim about trying to kill coyotes IIRC), except all the poison he was scattering everywhere around his property killed something like hundreds of animals (including bears and other fairly large animals, some of them, protected species).

If they specifically mentioned/advocated carrying wasp spray for dogs (or humans) for 'self defense', ask for your money back. If they're that clueless about this, what else were they equally clueless about?

My 15-year-old boy walks up our road to get the mail. He enjoys his little walks and we appreciate him getting the mail. The neighbor's dog came over onto our property and bit the shit out of him. A lot of these aren't scratches these are gaping wounds that are 1/4-in deep.

I'm fucking pissed
No lawyers needed. The solution is simple if you are not after money. The neighbor chains up the dog. Nathan puts a bullet in its head. Everyone shakes hands.

Sorry to hear about the Covid, Jo. Man, when it rains, it pours. I hope you feel better soon. Tell Nathan jewelry and chocolate help speed up the recovery process. 😁

And congrats, Benny, on your slam dunk win. It sounds like you had quite the commanding lead on the #2 competitor. That's awesome!

So animal control came to pick it up and the dog is gone. So either they're lying to law enforcement or they have irresponsibly let an aggressive dog roam free to attack someone else. 😡
As I understand it, quarantine is required bc they need to know if the dog has, among other things, rabies. This is turning into an even bigger cluster. Ugh!

As a chemist it is easy to think of all sorts of nasty concoctions, but it's best to remember that whenever you go spraying stuff, especially outside, you are likely to get at least a little exposure yourself. I'd stick with something like bear spray.
