These days people are smoking wasp spray to get high. I wish I was making that up.

The active ingredients are largely permethrin or cypermethrin type stuff that you also spray on your clothing and tent to keep the bugs off of you while you're camping. It is the active ingredient in head lice shampoo for children, and in a higher concentration than used in wasp spray. Charlie Mike (RIP) once ate some to get rid of scabies. It wouldn't be much more of a deterrent to a dog than just squirting it with water. Anybody suggesting that for self-defense didn't know what they were talking about and should not be teaching it in a class. SMH. Now, oven cleaner would be a different story. But I still doubt it's going to outperform a strong capsaicin spray. A strong pepper spray can often stop a vicious animal faster than a knife wound or a gunshot because it works on both the eyes and the ability to breathe instantly whereas any knife wound takes a moment to register or be effective and the gunshot wound would have to hit something in the central nervous system to be as fast acting as just regular spray. And pepper spray can be carried and used with less legal ramifications than a firearm or knife.

All of that said. It seems like a small pole arm, even just a stick, is going to be a deterrent for most dogs and it gives you some range. Most mean dogs have been abused and most animal abusers are going to have beat their dog with a stick at some point. I don't know any dog that wants a piece of that kind of action.

I've had this stick for going on 30 years now. A handy item. I cut it when mushroom hunting. The fork is great for pinning a snake or grabbing stuff that's out of reach in the back pf the truck. It will also fend off a dog.

When it rains, it pours, they say... Many condolences to the Carothers - I am hoping for a speedy recovery on all counts and the best possible outcome for the dog situation.

Admittedly, I am a crazy dog person. I have five of the canines(all rescues), three of which have bloodlines that polite society can sometimes find offensive. With that said, the burden of responsibility as their caretaker weighs heavily upon me and I do not take it lightly.

A few years ago, I had a dog, a gal I had taken from a shameless puppy mill and nursed from death's doorstep. She was never good with strangers and I had to be extra mindful when we had company over. One of my neighbors has a large dog (some sort of big Schnauzer mix) and they NEVER contain him. He roams free, comes onto my property all the time to bark at us, and is generally a nuisance. One day, my oldest had our dogs out on the back deck, she didn't latch the gate and they all came piling out and straight for my neighbor's property. Phoenix (my dog) got in a scuffle with their big 'un and caused some injury. We got the dogs corralled and put away and I paid their dog's vet bill.

Now I am very strict with my dogs - they DO NOT roam free. I have a fenced yard and they are always leashed when walked or on a trip. Phoenix was persistent and her anxiety regarding the neighbor's dog got higher and higher - she obsessed over him. Sure enough, we had a friend housesitting and looking after the kids while we had a weekend away and the dogs got out again. Phoenix went straight for the neighbor's dogs, but this time she went for their little yapper and caused far more serious injury. Again, I paid the vet bill and took Phoenix into the vet and let her finally be at peace.

I will never advocate violence against dogs. That said, they are still animals that require responsible ownership and handling. Here in the states, packs of wild dogs are a rare thing so it isn't hard to point the finger squarely at a human culprit when a dog issue occurs.

Wait...

CPK D3V spearhead? Halberd? Naginata blade?

IN!!! DEFINITELY IN!!!

😍😍😍😍😍

P.S.

In fact, I've been wondering about finding someone who could make a functional spearhead for a QingLong Ji (eg. Like this)

Of all the traditional weapons I trained in/with, this one was the most versatile/devastating when used properly (we made mockup versions for sparring, so we could try silly stuff like spear vs sword and shield etc.)

I'd pay a pretty penny for a well made functional piece.

This b.s. is starting to piss me off...

People need to start taking responsibility or face consequences...legal, financial, etc...it's not the injured parties that need to be "understanding".
Failure to take personal responsibility for one's actions/inactions is becoming an ever-increasing problem these days it seems. Said failure is often also accompanied by apathy and lack of common sense.
