Hope you're enjoying NC, Mike. Looks like you have.
Thank you, Blues. Much appreciated.

We are heading home tomorrow. We spent some time on Okracoke island, in Charolette, Ashville, and of course Mooresville. Did a bit of hiking off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoyed all of it. Man, this time of year, the foliage is gorgeous! Great and friendly people, all around.

Give us a heads up next time you're out this way.

We only went after two legged game
The most dangerous game!

Well, broke my collarbone this week in a wee dirt bike accident.

Now, after visiting the fracture clinic, turns out I require surgery where they’ll install a plate to keep the collarbone together (it broke in 4 sections). This is scheduled for Monday.

Anyone have experience with this?
I broke my collarbone (in one place) once. In a teenage moment of utter nincompoopitude, I executed a maneuver that resulted in me flipping over the handlebars of IIRC a KX250 and into a boulder field. (God, I dunno why you allowed my hopelessly moronic derrière to continue with life at this moment, but thank you!) Stood up in shock and concerned with finding my glasses. After I grounded slighty, I started thinking about my body. Seemed like I was okay but started feeling my body with my hands as I thought there's no way I didn't sustain damage with what just happened. Found a broken clavicle. My friends carted me off to the nearest hospital to get checked out. This was in the hills of Appalachia... The medics said there was nothing they could do about it, put a shoulder brace on me and sent me on my way. I was in college at the time, on a weekend camping trip having a bit of a reunion with some friends from high school. I visited the college infirmary upon my return. My teenage, drug laden, incalculably inept self was actually on a mission to score painkillers. Not for pain, mind you, as I wasn't experiencing any (why?). They took one look and said something like "Oh my god, who put this thing on you? It's upside down and backward!" and adjusted the thing. Then, "My colleague assures me this is one of the most painful breaks possible." I got excited! Then they prescribed me Lorcet. Lorcet. Such a let down. I never did feelmuch pain from the break,; just a light, dull soreness. Chucked the pills. Wore that brace for a while (3 months? I don't remember) and moved on with life. The bone set offset; now there's a S curve in my clavicle. Had a bone splinter annoying me for years, but eventually it stopped being noticeable.

Stupid USPS left our packages on the ground, in the rain, up the road instead of delivering them to the house.

Thousands of dollars of custom-made SDFK sheaths. Fortunately Eric packages each sheath in a plastic bag. I'm glad this wasn't thousands of dollars of custom-made grinding belts that got soaked.

We are struggling with rising costs, we don't need to be scrapping materials because some lazy incompetent useless POS mail carrier can't do their effing job

I don't know how much a mail carrier is paid or what their labor rate is, but I'm pretty sure the cost to ship those three packages exceeds an hour of their time. It's offensive they'll take money to deliver a package but can't take a couple of minutes to actually bring it to the house instead just leave it on the freaking road.

Sounds like a great trip Mike! That’s cool you made it to the Outer Banks. Very unique place. Had a memorable trip thru there once upon a time.

Safe travels

Walking is hard. And, I mean… you said it was raining. So…

If you can’t upgrade the help maybe you should look at upgrading the hardware.

This is a big problem in our area, which I've commented on here in this thread recently.

Aside from the packages that are left on top of, attached to, or below the rural mailboxes on the main road, (such as it is), there is an altogether too frequent issue with not receiving mail that "informed delivery" indicates should have been received.

Whether that mail is delivered or not, (and to whose box?), is anybody's guess.

I really like our mail gal, and I have confidence in her, (plus she lives down at the bottom of the hill with her husband who is a popular musician around these parts and a family farmer), but the substitutes often leave a lot to be desired.

It's just friggin' maddening...and I feel for you since the volume and cost of the materials you ship and receive far outstrips anything we do on a personal level.

The old mail carrier's oath used to mean something. Now it's lost to antiquity.

My wife and I were just in Asheville, for a few days. Unbeknownst to us, the place we rented was about a block from the New Belgium brewery. We tasted a flight of four beers. Ends out 1554 was the beer we liked best. Mike

I swung by Bhramari when I was there a few months back. Fantastic food. My step father ended up writing an article on the below brew. I loved it, but I love my beer as thick and dark as used t6 with as much abv as I can get. Hope you had a blast out there!

Thank you, Dave!

Thank you, Mark! Yes the outer banks are pretty unique and interesting. Lots of history on Okracoke. Had some really good food too!

Speaking of the USPS. In general, we’ve had pretty good service. Although, for our vacation, I put a hold on our mail (10 days) and I received an acknowledgement. The mail was never held. Luckily, my son lives nearby and was able to collect the letters (junk mail), and packages delivered to our doorstep.
